usually refers to a combination of such traditional livestock species as cattle and sheep, cattle and goats, or an amalgam of all three. These days, almost anything is likely to stick its head over a pasture fence, and the llama with these upgraded meat goats is not nearly as odd a sight as it would have been two decades ago.

Heavy Carcasses Move Back Into High Price Level
Heavyweight carcasses moved back to the top of the market last week for the first time since December. Heavyweights traded up as much as $5 and lightweights lost $5. Weights of 45-65 pounds on the East Coast were $191.50-192, 65-85 pounds $196.50-197.

Plains Feedlots Give Up $1-2 But Finally Sell Some Cattle
Plains feedlots finally made some Wednesday trades this week, but they gave up another $1-2 doing it. It was the first time in several weeks that cattle moved before Thursday, and most recent weeks saw trading delayed until Friday.

Feeder lambs sold firm to $2 higher this week, slaughter lambs steady and slaughter ewes weak. Goats sold moderately lower. Two day receipts totaled 15,212 head, around 55 percent slaughter ewes, 10 percent feeder lambs, five percent slaughter lambs and 30 percent goats.

Lamb Meat Imports Hit 88.2% Of 201 Quota
Lamb meat imports in May were up 1.5 percent from a year ago at 2995 metric tons, or 6.9 million pounds, according to the U.S. Customs Department.

Abilene Feeder Steers, Heifers In Mixed Trade

Feeder steers and heifers sold steady, except a few heavy heifers $1 lower and some crossbred steers $2-3 lower, slaughter cows and bulls $1-1.50 higher, bred stock cows and pairs steady. Receipts totaled 1777 head.

Kansas Direct Feeder Steer Prices Trade
Feeder steers sold steady to $2 lower in Kansas direct trade last week, heifers mostly steady on limited sales. The weather was mild and humid with some late evening thunderstorms. Sales were confirmed on 8276 head.

Most Lampasas Feeder Cattle Prices Lower
Feeder steers and heifers sold $1-2 lower, slaughter cows and bulls steady. Receipts totaled 1416 head.

San Saba, Brownwood, Mason Feeders Steady
Feeder steers and heifers sold mostly steady in Mason, Brownwood and San Saba last week, lightweight heifers $1-2 lower, slaughter cows and bulls steady, pairs and stock cows in good demand. Receipts totaled 2137 head at the three sales.

Domestic Wool Slow, No Aussie Wool Sales
Domestic wool trading was nearly at a complete standstill last week. Demand and seller interest was light.

Texas Angora Goat Sale Top Buck Brings $3700
The grand champion buck in the Texas Angora Goat Raisers Association sale was consigned by Laura Martin and sold for $3700 to Jad Davis and Willis Springfield, Midland. The high selling Angora doe was from Freddie and Mary Alice Flach and bought by Dusty Naumann, Marble Falls, for $375.

Milano Feeder Steers, Heifers Sell Lower
Feeder steers and heifers sold $1-3 lower, slaughter cows steady to $2 higher, bulls steady. Receipts totaled 1417 head.

South African Mohair Sale Moves Near 100%
The first winter season South African Cape mohair sale in July moved nearly 100 percent of the 180,000 pound offering, according to a report by Mohair Council of America.

U.S. Meat Production 1.3% Above A Year Ago
Total red meat production under federal inspection for last week was estimated at 864.3 million pounds, 1.5 percent less than a week earlier but 1.3 percent more than a year ago. Cumulative meat production for the year to date down .5 percent at 25.99 billion pounds.

Lightweight and mediumweight feeder steers and heifers sold steady, heavyweights $2 lower, slaughter cows $2 higher, bulls steady. Receipts totaled 910 head.

Cuero Feeder Cattle Prices Termed Mixed
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady to strong, lesser grades a little lower, slaughter cows and bulls $2-3 higher. Receipts totaled 2461 head.

Goldthwaite Feeder Lambs Traded Lower
Feeder lambs sold $2 higher, slaughter lambs under 80 pounds $3-5 lower, lambs over 80 pounds steady, slaughter ewes steady, stock ewes steady; lightweight slaughter kid goats $2-5 lower, weights over 30 pounds steady, slaughter nannies steady. Receipts totaled 3121 head.
