50 YEARS AGO

A. M. Harkey of Mason has contracted the Steve Stumberg lambs at Sanderson for delivery next fall at 25 cents per pound.

Harvey Martin bought 538 mutton lambs weighing 66 pounds from James Windham, Rankin, at 29 cents.

Martin also bought two loads of steer calves weighing 473 pounds from Joe Moulton of San Angelo at 30½ cents. He sold 64 Angus cows at $240 each for the dry cows and $300 for the pairs.

Ben Sheppard, order buyer at Springfield, Missouri, has bought, for Kennett and Goodspadden, McCook, Nebraska, 12 registered Angus cows and calves at $400 per pair; and 116 commercial Angus springer cows at $236.50 per head.

45 YEARS AGO

Harvey Martin, San Angelo, this week bought 1300 heavy feeder lambs expected to weigh around 80 pounds at $16.50 cwt., including 700 in the Fort Stockton area and 600 in the Eden area.

Jake Osborne, Pampa, sold 383 good quality steer yearlings weighing 725 pounds at $17.25 to a Colorado feeder, delivered Nov. 12.

Lowell Winsor of Texline, Texas, bought 503 heifer yearlings weighing 600 pounds at $14.50 from Fred Fuqua, Tascosa, delivered Nov. 11. These were described as good quality cattle, cut from a total of 625 head; they went to an Arizona feeder.

George Simms of Panhandle, Texas, bought 150 good quality steers averaging 662 pounds from R.F. Rock, Nara Visa, N.M., at $18.50 for 50 head and $18 for the balance, delivered Nov. 7.

Ranchers Feed Yards, Fort Stockton, this week bought 700 mixed lambs, including a small percentage of crossbred blackfaces, from Bud McLaughlin of Crane County at $16.50 cwt.; these weighed 78 pounds on delivery this week.

V. Lee Matney of Amarillo bought from John Honeycutt of Van Horn, 80 steer yearlings expected to weigh about 625 pounds at $22.50 and 60 steer calves to weigh near 425 at $25 for Nov. 24 delivery.

Pete Crawford of Bushland, Kan., bought, from the Babbitt Ranch at Flagstaff, Ariz., 168 heifer calves weighing 412 pounds at $24 and 96 steer calves averaging 433 at $26, delivered last week.

Dick Diehl of Stratford sold 230 heifer yearlings expected to weigh about 700 pounds at $21 for Dec. 15 delivery to Louis Dinklage, Wisner, Neb.

Nig Reid of Tulia, Texas, sold 1200 steer yearlings weighing about 800 pounds at $22 for delivery last week and this week to Woody Copeland, Wichita Falls.

Macario Perez of Chihuahua City, Chihuahua, Mexico, recently sold 2000 steer calves to Jess Burner of El Paso, including 1000 for delivery next April at $27.25 cwt. and 1000 for delivery this month at $26.50 cwt.

Quincy Reeves of Raton, N.M., bought 110 cutback cows six to nine years old at $12.50 cwt. with 3 percent shrink from the CS Ranch, Cimarron.

Stephens Bros., Anadarko, Okla., sold 123 four year-old Angus heavy springer cows at $197.50 per head to a Texas buyer.

Sam Singleton of Dalhart sold 130 steer yearlings weighing about 650 pounds at $23 to a New Mexico buyer.

John Houser of Gardner, Colo., sold and delivered 105 heifers weighing 515 pounds at $21.75 and 74 heifers weighing 530 at $22.30 to a La Junta buyer.

Tom Reed of Amarillo sold to Alabama packers 350 fed heifers grading 85% choice, balance good, weighing 850-900 pounds at $23.50; also 120 steers grading 80% choice, weighing 950 at $24.50.

The first sizable wool sales since last spring were made this week as two Roswell warehouses and one in Artesia sold about 700,000 pounds of spring wool to The Top Co., Boston, for 30-38 cents a pound, bulk 33-35. This was mostly ewe wool.

Frank Allen, Clayton, N.M., bought 130 Hereford steer calves weighing 330 pounds at $39 in the Deming area.
