Sol Weatherby, buyer for Triplett Cattle Company, last week loaded
422 mixed calves weighing 452 pounds from Mayes and Cloud of Lampasas;
these were bought on early contract at 30 cents a pound. He received
and shipped 210 mixed calves averaging 474 from Borden Gray of Snyder
and shipped them to Illinois; these were contracted in July at 30 and
30½. He bought a load of 890 pound calves from Edmiston Brothers of
Eldorado at 18 cents and resold them to Harvey Martin of San Angelo.
Since September 1, Weatherby has received 11,522 had of cattle in
West Texas, including 2600 calves bought through the Mason Feed Store
at Mason. They were shipped to Illinois, Indiana, California and the
Texas Panhandle.
__________
Moore and Sons of Eldorado last weekend delivered a load of fed
lambs averaging 101½ pounds at 27½ cents a pound, weighed at
Eldorado, to Vestal Askew of Sonora, buyer for Armour & Company.
The lambs were in full wool. Another load just like them will be
delivered in the next few days.
Henry Moore, member of the ranching-farming partnership selling the
lambs, said they were fed grain free-choice while running on Sudan
fields. They were drenched and vaccinated for over-eating when they
were put on feed, and up to date not one has died.

__________
There’s a squeeze on in the wool sack business again. San Angelo
warehousemen say bags are quoted at $1.40 to $1.50 wholesale, f.o.b.
Houston, as compared with 90 cents apiece last year—and now they’re
not sure they’ll be able to buy enough to go around at that price.
The difficulty is in getting the burlap from Calcutta, where the
material is made of jute form Pakistan and shipped to this country for
manufacture into sacks. The supply of burlap has failed before, and
growers sacked their wool in paper bas which are much inferior to
burlap.
