Domestic Wool Finds
Best Action In Months
GREELEY, Colo. — (USDA) — Domestic wool trading was moderate to
fairly active last week with demand moderate and much broader than in
many months. Prices were steady to firm on comparable sales.
Territory trading: Colorado, 40,000 pounds, 2-2.5 inch lamb wool
19.5-23 micron 25-28 cents f.o.b. grease, ewe wool 1.5-2.5 inch 22-30
micron 15-20 cents; Texas, 18,000 pounds 18.5-20 micron lamb wool,
three-inch, 40 cents f.o.b., grease, crossbred 22-24 micron 23 cents.
Midwestern areas: 80,000 pounds lamb wool, heavy dirt, manure or
wet, zero to five cents grease.
Warehouse trading: 526,000 pounds reported. On a clean, delivered
basis, graded lamb wool 1.5-2.2 inch, 26 micron, high yield 39 cents,
three-inch graded 28-29 micron ewe wool 65 cents, 30-33 micron grade
three-inch 60 cents, burry wools 22-23 micron 60 cents, 27-31 micron
burry wool 54-55 cents, few 60, 1.5-inch 31.5-32 micron ewe wool 39
cents, bellies 21-26 micron, average yield, 18 cents grease,
delivered, crossbred and blackface buck wool 24-27 micron,
1.5-inch length, 21 cents grease, f.o.b.
Australia's market indicator was up 17 to close at 796A cents per
kilo clean. A total of 72,458 bales were offered with clearance at 93
percent. The grease 21 micron contracts for February were down four at
699A, April up one at 663, June unchanged at 676 and August up 17 at
684. The clean wool contracts for 19 micron wools had February up 32
at 1355A, April up 58 at 1303, June up 27 at 1267, and August up 70 at
1230. The 23 micron clean wool contracts for February were up 10 at
585A, April up 10 at 585, June up 20 at 590 and August up 18 at 590.
New Zealand wool prices closed higher. The strong wool indicator
was up 16 cents at 408NZ cents per kilo clean, lamb indicator up 10 at
364. Fine and medium wools were not tested. A total of 18,127 bales
were offered with clearance at 89 percent. The New Zealand dollar was
at .4380 compared to the U.S. dollar.
