Fat, Feeder Lambs Stay
Mostly Steady
Fat and feeder lambs generally sold steady around the
country, except in Midwest markets on Monday were fats were called
$2-3 lower and feeders steady to $4 higher. Slaughter ewes were weak
to $1 lower in Texas and steady in the Midwest.
Plains Fed Cattle Asking
Price, Bids Far Apart Through Midweek
Plains feedlots were asking $72 at midweek, their hand
strengthened by last week's late-hour price increase. Packers, on the
other hand, were willing to offer only $67, $2 below last week's final
going rate.

Most slaughter goats sold steady this week in Texas markets,
though there was a little weakness in San Angelo.

Higher Last Week On Light Early Sales
Slaughter cattle in direct trade areas last week maintained
the recent trend of limited movement until Friday afternoon. Limited
sales in the north were steady to $1 higher.

Trade Declined On Reduced Supplies
Feeder steer and heifer calves and yearlings sold unevenly
steady across the country last week on much lighter supplies.
Superior Livestock Video
Sale Offering Totals 24,000 Cattle
Superior Livestock Auction offered more than 24,000 feeders
at their regularly scheduled video sale. Consignments were from 20
states, demand moderate and trade fairly active. Yearlings were steady
and calves steady to $1 higher.

Steady, Cattle Firm
Feeder lambs sold steady in a light test this week,
slaughter lambs weak, ewes weak to $1 lower; nanny goats and kids were
weak. One day receipts totaled 10,893 head, around 40 percent
slaughter ewes, 25 percent slaughter lambs, one percent feeder lambs
and 35 percent goats.
Domestic Wool Slow, Aussie
Wools Higher
Domestic wool trading was slow last week, due primarily to
light supplies and the recent erratic trading in Australia. Demand
remains moderate.

Goats Steady
Feeder lambs sold steady to weak, slaughter lambs steady;
slaughter goats were steady. Receipts totaled 2782 head.
Producers Offers 1100
Cattle Via Internet
Producers internet Auction offered 1100 feeder cattle.
Consignments were from Texas, Arkansas and Florida. Delivery was
current.

Heifer Prices Steady
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady, slaughter cows and
bulls higher, stock cows and pairs steady. Receipts totaled 419 head.
Sheep sold steady on Wednesday, January 23, nanny goats steady, kids
$1-2 lower, Barbados higher. Receipts totaled 603 head.

No trends were offered on receipts of 1330 head.

Steady, Heifers Up
Feeder steers sold steady, heifers $2-3 higher, slaughter
cows $2-4 higher, bulls steady to $2 higher. Receipts totaled 428
head.
Most Milano Cattle Prices
Termed Higher
Feeder steers and heifers sold $1-2 higher, instances $3
higher, slaughter cows steady to $2 higher, bulls steady to firm.
Receipts totaled 683 head.
Graham Feeder Steers,
Heifers Trade Higher
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $1.50 higher,
slaughter cows and bulls $2-3 higher, stock cows and pairs steady to
$10 higher. Receipts totaled 1188 head.
Abilene Feeder Steer,
Heifer Prices Higher
Feeder steers and heifers sold $2-3 higher, slaughter cows
and bulls $1-2 higher, stock cows and pairs strong. Receipts totaled
1200 head.
Fredericksburg Feeder
Heifers Sell Higher
Feeder steers sold strong, heifers $1-3 higher, slaughter
cows and bulls $2-3 higher. Receipts totaled 1676 head.
Colorado City Feeder
Cattle Prices Steady
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady, slaughter cows $1-3
higher, bulls $2 higher, stock cows $25 higher, pairs steady. Receipts
totaled 513 head.
TBBA Brangus Bulls
Average $1688 Each
More than 350 Brangus bulls and females were offered at the
Texas Brangus Breeders Association annual sale at the Fort Worth Stock
Show.

Heifers Move Higher
Feeder steers sold steady to higher in most classes,
slaughter cows $2-3 higher, bulls higher, stock cows and pairs strong.
Receipts totaled 1201 head.
San Saba, Brownwood,
Mason Heifers Higher
Feeder steers sold steady last week in Mason, Brownwood and
San Saba, heifers $2-5 higher, slaughter cows and bulls $1-2 higher,
stock cows steady. Receipts totaled 1725 head at the three sales.
Junction Slaughter Kids
Sell Steady
Slaughter kids sold steady, nannies $2-4 higher, other
classes of goats and sheep steady. Receipts totaled 3163 head.
San Saba Female Sale
Prices On Strong Side
Prices were generally strong on female cattle replacements
at the regular January sale. Receipts totaled 2687 head.
U.S. Meat Production 1.5%
Above A Year Ago
Total red meat production under federal inspection last week
was estimated at 886.4 million pounds, 4.1 percent less than a week
earlier and 1.5 percent more than a year ago. Cumulative meat
production for the year to date was down two percent at 3.34 billion
pounds.
Kansas Direct Feeder
Cattle Prices Lower
Feeder steers sold weak to $1 lower last week in Kansas
direct trade, heifers on a light test weak to $2 lower. The weather
was mild with no moisture. Sales were confirmed on 5988 head.
December Lamb, Veal,
Mutton At Record Low
Monthly record lows for U.S. commercial veal, lamb and
mutton production were set in December, while red meat production was
up five percent at 3.81 billion pounds.
