2001 Mexican Cattle
Imports Down 27%

LAS CRUCES, N.M. —(USDA)— Feeder cattle imports from Mexico the week ending January 26 totaled 32,248 head. The year to date volume is down 27 percent at 93,160 head.

Total year to date livestock exports to Mexico through January 26 were down three percent at 656,952 head.

Year to date slaughter cattle exports to Mexico were down 14 percent at 115,578 head. Breeding beef animals were down slightly with bulls at 3106 head and females 2720 head. Dairy cattle exports were down 31 percent at 19,692 head, including 19,441 females and 251 males.

Slaughter hog exports were down two percent at 49,133 head. Total hog exports were up 21 percent at 76,991 head, breeding boars up 85 percent at 3530 head, sows up more than double at 24,328 head.

Total sheep exports to Mexico were up three percent at 394,089 head. Slaughter sheep were up three percent with ewes at 389,624 head and lambs 2985 head. Breeding males were 651 head, females 829 head.

Slaughter goat exports were down 29 percent at 38,273 head. Horse exports were up 41 percent at 3522 head.
