Texas Slaughter Goat Prices
Decline Sharply This Week
Slaughter kid goat prices were $5-10 lower this week, losing most
of last week’s advance; nannies were steady.
Goat slaughter under federal inspection the week ending February 23
was 12,420 head.
There were 370 slaughter goats exported to Mexico last week. The
year to date volume is well over double a year ago at 2932 head.
Goat meat imports the week ending February 2 were 125 metric tons,
or around 275,000 pounds. The year to date volume is up 32 percent at
637 metric tons.
Hamilton quoted 20-40 pound kids $110-129, 40-65 pounds $103-122
and over 65 pounds $98-119; nannies were $50-64 and billies $60-72.
Lometa kids 35-45 pounds made $110-117, 50-70 pounds $100-117,
70-90 pounds $90-115 and over 100 pounds $85-102; nannies and billies
were $60-70.
Goldthwaite had 60-85 pound Spanish kids $95-108, nannies 60-165
pounds $50-67.50, Boer cross kids 20-40 pounds $102-115, 40-60 pounds
$103-118 and 60-80 pounds $100-117. Nannies 80-150 pounds were
$53.50-74, billies 120-250 pounds $60-70 and muttons 75-120 pounds
$80-92.
Junction kids brought $110-118, lightweights $115-122, yearlings
$95-105, nannies $62-70 and billies $70-103.
San Angelo meat type kids 25-40 pounds made $117-122.50, 40-45
pounds $110-117, 45-80 pounds $105-110 and 80-110 pounds $75-80.
Nannies 90-125 pounds were $60-68.
Fredericksburg Spanish kids 15-40 pounds brought $100-110, 60-80
pounds $85-98, Boer cross 15-40 pounds $100-116, 40-60 pounds
$102-109, 60-80 pounds $85-110; meat type nannies 55-150 pounds were
$45-70, billies 80-185 pounds $70-74 and muttons 90-120 pounds
$77.50-80.
