50 YEARS AGO
Triplett Cattle Company of Amarillo has contracted 200 good quality
yearling steers from Nelson Ainsworth, Milnesand, New Mexico, for
October delivery at 30 cents a pound with 10 percent at 29 cents.
These are expected to weigh around 700 pounds at delivery.
Triplett also bought and received 500 steers of various colors and
averaging 684 pounds from Odell Ryan of Perryton, Texas; these were
shipped to California.

Les Parker and Bill Price of Stratford sold three loads of three
year-old cows and calves to a Mr. McNutt of Morse, Texas, at $350 a
pair.

Charlie Waller of Roswell last week sold 1500 four year-old ewes at
$26 per head to Earl Powell of Santa Rosa, New Mexico. These ewes will
lamb in May.

Ray White of Clovis, New Mexico, representing Producers Livestock
Marketing Association of Ogden, has bought 1100 wooled wether lambs,
including 600 from J.P. Moss and 400 from Ralph Cooper, both of
Floydada, Texas, at 24 cents a pound. White also bought 350 wooled
wether lambs from R.F. Bennett of Lockney, Texas, at $23.75 per
hundred-weight. In addition, he has bought 500 ewes and lambs at $24
per pair.

Shelby Jersig of Clovis recently bought 129 choice Angus heifers
weighing 502 pounds from Fred Dodson and Bill Hulett of Amarillo at
$37 cwt. He resold these to Ralph R. Johnson of Clovis at $37.50.

J.D. Center and Joe B. Lloyd Jr., San Antonio, bought 260 whiteface
yearling heifers and heifer calves from Pete Lewis of Eagle Pass for
late March delivery at $16 for the yearlings and $18 for the calves;
these weigh 300-400 pounds.

Hez Abernathy of Clovis sold 1000 Angus steer yearlings estimated
to weigh about 450 pounds at $20 to Austin Keesley of Hannibal, Mo.,
for delivery between March 20 and April 20 with 10 percent cut.

Arthur Lytton of El Indio, Texas, sold 400 Santa Gertrudis type
feeder steers, three year-olds expected to weigh close to 1000 pounds,
at $16 for immediate delivery to A.B. Spencer & Son, San Antonio;
these are Laurel Leaf bred (Sarita East) steers in the Kingsville
area.

Max Bassman of Amarillo bought, from George Porter, Amarillo, 350
choice quality heifer yearlings weighing 550 pounds at $18.50 with 45
sorted out, delivered last week.

Smith & Sherle of Hobart, Okla. sold a load of Angus cows and
calves at $140 per pair to Ted Cunningham of Clinton, Okla., delivered
last week.

Dennis Kotara of Panhandle, Texas, sold 245 good Hereford heifer
yearlings expected to weigh 550 at $24.50 to Vernon Wolff of Norfolk,
Neb., for delivery this weekend.

Jerry and Billy Connor, and Harry Pletcher of Farnsworth, Texas,
sold 500 heifer yearlings described as "Alabama Herefords"
weighing 430 pounds at $24.50, delivered last week to Ralph Britten of
Groom.

George Diedrichsen of Bancroft, Neb., bought on Illinois order 375
good Angus steer yearlings expected to average 675 pounds at $25.50
for March 27 delivery from Rex Hall of Dumas, Texas.

pounds at $25.25, delivered last week, to Haas Davis Packing Co.,
Mobile, Ala.; also two loads of 1080-pound steers at $25.25 to San
Juan Packing Co., Fresno Calif., delivered last week.

Ross Rentfro, Amarillo, bought 400 young Hereford cows with 150
calves on them now at $220 and 17 registered bulls at $300 for now to
March 30 delivery from Wayne McCuistian of Tucumcari, N.M.

The Texas Panhandle's feedlot industry, already huge in comparison
with what it was a few years ago, will soon be getting two more lots
of major size, one at Stratford and the other at Bovina. The Stratford
lots are to be known as Stratford Feedyard Inc., and the other
feedlot, to be built by the Parmer County Cattle Co., located about
three miles southwest of Bovina.

blackface muttons weighing 74 pounds at $19 cwt. to Carroll Farmer and
Buster Trotter of San Angelo. They also sold 250 blackface ewe lambs
weighing 74 pounds in the wool at $24 cwt. to a Panhandle buyer.
