STOCKER CATTLE operators who paid big money for calves a few months ago face an entirely different price structure now that those beasts are coming off. One order buyer notes that many of the people he buys from "have forgotten how bad it hurts" to lose money, but that they are relearning quickly now that feedlots are passing their own losses of as much as $100 per head back down the chain. Retail beef prices, of course, are at near record highs and packers remain in the black as well.
