George Porter of Amarillo sold 275 fed heifers to Pinkney Packing Company, also of Amarillo, at $31.25 cwt. They averaged 800 pounds.

Arthur Letts of Amarillo bought 400 yearling heifers from Pat Slavin of Clarendon for July 15 delivery at 30 cents per pound; these are estimated to weigh about 640 pounds.

Otho Drake of San Angelo this week sold, for Russell Hays of San Angelo, 938 yearling ewes weighing around 75 pounds to Toogie Leggett of Menard at 21 cents a pound. Drake also sold for Perry Matthews of Eldorado, 390 yearling muttons weighing 61 pounds to H.B. Mayfield of San Angelo at 18 cents.

Pete Moulton of San Angelo bought a carload of calves, mostly steers and weighing around 340 pounds, from E.V. (Buddy) Hall of Water Valley at 37 cents a pound.

Wool trading remains extremely quiet in the Southwest this week. Bill Fields of Sonora, representing Albert Schneider, bought a fair tonnage of 12-months wool in small lots from warehouses at Fredericksburg, Comfort and Bandera at 56½ to 60 cents per pound.

Pat Chamberlain of Clarendon, Texas, sold 40 cows and calves, four to six years old, through J.I. Wynn of Amarillo, at $255 per pair and delivered them June 70 to Elmer Melton of Pampa.

Joel Stavelo of Gruver, Texas, sold 165 choice quality feeder steers averaging 793 pounds at $22, weighed after a 12-mile haul with two percent shrink, to Max Bassman of Amarillo, delivered last week; these cattle had been receiving grain supplement on wheat fields.

Mid-West Feed Yards, San Angelo, bought 300 oldcrop slaughter lambs from Frank Meador, Eldorado, and 600 from Pete Ainsworth, Colorado City, at $16 cwt.

Al Smith of Hereford, Texas, sold 60 choice quality long-fed steers estimated to weigh 1100 pounds out of feedlots at Farwell at $24.25 for delivery this week to Neuhoff Packing Co., Dallas.

Steve Treadway, Clayton, N.M., bought 33 cows and calves, four to five years old, at $150 per pair from Lloyd Wood of Grenville, N.M., delivered last week.

Lawson Stevens of Amarillo sold and delivered 43 cows and calves at $160 per pair to Earl Brown of Adrian, Texas; the cows were three to seven years old.

Jim Williamson of Pep, N.M., this week sold and delivered 103 heifers weighing 430 and 129 steers weighing 486 at $25.75 and $28, respectively, to Stanley Good of Kenna, N.M. The cattle were delivered Tuesday in Clovis, weighed straight after a 60-mile haul.

Raymond Smith of McGregor, Texas, is reported to have sold 300 Hereford steers weighing around 800 pounds for delivery right away at $23 to a North Texas buyer.

Jim Burn of Dalhart is reported to have sold 222 Angus heifer and steer calves expected to weigh 500-525 pounds for fall delivery at $25 and $27 to Kansas buyers.

Artie Watkins of Dalhart is reported to have sold 135 steers described as just good quality, expected to weigh 725-775 pounds, for fall delivery at $22.25 to James McCarty, Dalhart.

Jim Taylor of Stratford sold one load of feeder heifers weighing 625 at $23.50, delivered last week to Colorado feeders.

Judd Cattle Co. of Dalhart sold 115 Hereford and Angus heifer yearlings weighing 600-625 pounds at $24 to a local buyer.

Ed Hall of Sublette, Kan., sold 100 steers weighing 1150 pounds after 125 days on feed in Sublette Feed Yards at $25.50 to a Wichita packer.

Carter-Kirchoff Feed Yards at Plainview sold 240 steers weighing 1050 and grading 60 percent choice at $25.50 to a Texas packer.

Texas Panhandle feedyards entered the week with a moderate 80,000-head showlist and seemed determined to give it away if they couldn’t sell it. Packers had only to name their price, and they did, $1 lower at $63.
