ONCE COMMON on pasture and range throughout the country, a straight Hereford herd is a rare sight these days. Crossbreds of every stripe and solid color have become the norm in an industry which once was so dominated by this British breed that cattle traded on long distance were assumed to be Herefords unless described otherwise.
