Texas Slaughter Goat Prices
Range Steady To Much Lower
The volatile Texas slaughter goat market reversed course in some
areas this week after posting big gains last week.
Goat slaughter under federal inspection the week ending July 6
totaled 10,482 head.
Mexico imported 430 head of slaughter goats the week ending July
13, the year to date volume 11,440 head compared to 15,444 for the
same period last year.
Goat meat imports the week ending June 15 were 369 metric tons or
around 812,000 pounds, all but seven tons from Australia.
Goldthwaite, which was $10-15 higher last week, fell $8-10 on all
goat classes. Selection 1 kids weighing 20-40 pounds were $85-91,
40-60 pounds $85-97, and 60-80 pounds $85-96.50. Nannies made $42-58,
billies $70-75 and muttons $90-95.
Hamilton was steady at $89-101 on 20-40 pound kids, 40-65 pounders
$87-96 and 65 pounds and heavier $85-94; nannies were $55-78 and
billies $73-85.
Junction kids ran $81-88, small kinds $80-85 and thin offerings
$75-80; these prices were termed steady to steady to lower for the
week.
San Angelo prices were weaker at $86-92 on top 40-60 pound kids,
$86-92 on 60-80 pounds with a few to $96. Nannies 80-125 pounds earned
$50-61, thin 70-110-pounders $30-50, billies 100-150 pounds $65-80 and
150-250 pounds $65-73.
Fredericksburg termed goats $8-10 lower at $78-85 on best 20-40
pound kids, $80-85 on 40-60 pounds and $81-87 on 60-80 pounds; nannies
90-145 pounds were $36-56, billies 90-200 pounds $71-74.
