Choice gleanings from 45-plus years of Unregistered Bull
It must be wonderful to be an economist and be able to understand what’s going on in the world. Or even to be able to understand what economists say about what’s going on.

Pokin' Fun
A new priest had just moved into a Louisiana parish and began taking confessions. This particular man of the cloth was a gentle, moderate, sensitive individual.

Way early on the morning walks last month in San Francisco, I watched policemen make a route, using batons for alarm clocks to rouse the homeless people from any indentation large enough to shelter a human form. Down by the square, heard a fiddle whine to find a tune for a forlorn voice singing: "Mustang Molly, better slow yore mustang down. One of these early mornings, you gonna be wiping yore weepy eyes from riding too fast around dis town."

The administration loosed us on the ranching public, where our education continued.

The Computer& The Cowboy
How are computers changing the world? Recently I hypothesized that computers might be causing the stock market to be erratic, and I was brought up short by Dennis McBeth, who has a lot more experience in that field than I have. (I am always getting into fields I know little about, but that is the fun of life.) He reminded me that auctions, which is what the stock market is, are much more efficient if there are a lot of players.

Signs and Symbols…
A ring on the third finger of your left hand, a rain crow, a high-dollar horse trailer, speech patterns, a doctoral degree, a full moon ... mere occurrences and events, but, oh, so much more. Everyday happenings become important phenomena depending on the meaning we give to those phenomena, and the meaning changes as the individuals who experience or observe them do.
