Texas Slaughter Goat Prices
Hold Mostly Steady This Week

Slaughter goats around Texas markets were mostly steady this week. In Goldthwaite late last week, prices were $2-3 higher.

Goat slaughter under federal inspection the week ending August 17 totaled 11,118 head.

There were 1258 slaughter goats exported to Mexico last week.

Goat meat passed for entry into the U.S. the week ending July 27 came to 102 metric tons, or around 224,400 pounds. Imports from Australia were 91 metric tons and from New Zealand 11 metric tons.

Goldthwaite slaughter kids weighing 15-40 pounds brought $82-90, 40-60 pounds $80-90, a few $93, and 60-80 pounds $75-85. Nannies weighing 80-120 pounds were $35-41, billies 80-160 pounds $68-71 and muttons $80-93.

Hamilton quoted 20-40 pound kids $81-92, 40-70 pounds $82-104, over 70 pounds $77-87 and nannies $40-54.

San Angelo kids 25-40 pounds brought $86-94, 40-60 pounds $81-90 and 60-80 pounds $81-89. Nannies 70-125 pounds were $47-56, billies 80-100 pounds $72-76, 100-150 pounds $66-73 and 150-250 pounds $67-75.

Fredericksburg had 15-40 pound kids $82-99, 40-60 pounds $82-92 and 60-80 pounds $80-90. Nannies 65-140 pounds made $40-45 and billies 90-175 pounds $70-72.

Slaughter kids 40-80 pounds moved direct in West Texas at $80-85.
