Texas Slaughter Goat Prices
Highly Mixed, Mostly Higher
Slaughter goats were in mixed demand this week, some prices as much
as $8 higher and others $3 lower. Stronger markets included
Goldthwaite $3-5 higher, Junction $5-8 higher and Fredericksburg $5-7
higher. Hamilton was steady to $3 lower on kids and $4-8 higher on
nannies. San Angelo was a little higher on most classes but a little
lower on lightweight kids.
Slaughter goat exports to Mexico totaled 1003 head last week.
Slaughter under federal inspection around the country the week
ending October 8 came to 11,336 head.
There were 76 metric tons, or around 167,200 pounds of goat meat
imported the week ending September 14.
Lometa quoted 35-45 pound kids $95-109, 50-70 pounds $90-98, 70-90
pounds $90-96; nannies were $40-50 and billies $68-75.
Goldthwaite had 15-40 pound kids $90-100, 40-60 pounds $85-95 and
60-80 pounds $85-93. Nannies 75-135 pounds made $42-50, a few to $53,
billies 100-200 pounds $65-70 and muttons 85-105 pounds $70-75.
Hamilton moved 20-40 pound kids at $86-105, 40-70 pounds $85-96,
and over 70 pounds $75-90. Nannies brought $43-60 and billies $58-72.
Junction kids brought $95-107, lightweights $108-118, yearlings
$65-80, nannies $48-53, billies $65-75, and muttons $88-98.
San Angelo kids 30-45 pounds made $103-106, 45-60 pounds $88-98, a
few to $100, and 60-80 pounds $88-94. Nannies 80-125 pounds were
$47-56, billies 100-150 pounds $65-77 and 150-250 pounds $70-75.
Fredericksburg kids 15-40 pounds brought $93-122, 40-60 pounds
$95-105 and 60-80 pounds $90-102. Nannies 70-150 pounds made
$39-47.50, a few lightweights $53-55, billies 95-160 pounds $70-75 and
muttons 90-130 pounds $85-92.
