Lamb Prices Steady For Most
Part
Feeder lambs remain in short supply across the country. On
some Texas markets killers are taking the available supply. Numbers
are winding down in Billings, and prices were a couple of dollars
higher. A fairly good run in Newell, S.D. was as much as $10 higher.
Otherwise, prices held near steady.
Plains Slaughter Cattle
Trade Stalled Again Over Price Gap
Plains feedlots and packers remained at arms’ length
through midweek, separated by a $3-4 price gap.
Texas Slaughter Kid Prices
Highly Variable, Mostly Off
Slaughter kids found a mixed-up price trend on Texas markets
this week. After the previous week’s rain-influenced higher trends,
prices fell sharply at some markets this week. On Friday Goldthwaite
was $8-10 higher and Monday Hamilton followed with $5-10 higher
prices. Junction on Monday was $5-8 lower. On Tuesday San Angelo fell
$10 and Fredericksburg was $12-15 lower.

Vernon Cook is facing a dilemma. As a resident of the
semi-arid Texas Panhandle, he opposes shipping water from rural
Roberts County to metropolitan areas down-state. As Roberts County

Checkoff, Against Fines For Non-Payment
In a mixed decision, U.S. District Judge Richard Cebull has
ruled the beef checkoff constitutional but dismissed more than $12,000
in fines against a Montana couple who refused to pay it.

Exports of U.S. meat to Japan and Korea in October,

Prices Some Higher As Fields Dry Out
Yearling feeder steers and heifers sold firm to $1 higher
across the country in a light test last week. Steer and heifer calves
traded steady to $2 higher, the Southern Plains and Southeast turning
sharply higher at midweek.
Superior Livestock Video
Sale Offering Totals 24,500 Cattle
Superior Livestock Auction offered 24,500 cattle, mostly
feeders, in their regularly scheduled video sale. Consignments were
from 26 states. Yearlings sold steady to $1 higher, calves $2-3
higher.

Angelo Special Sale Monday
Steers and heifers were $1-3 higher here Monday in the
season’s seventh special feeder sale at Producers Livestock Auction.
Angelo Lambs Weak, Feeder
Cattle Firm
Feeder and slaughter lambs sold weak this week, slaughter
ewes weak to $2 lower; nanny goats were weak to $2 lower, kids $10
lower. Receipts totaled 12,241 head, around 45 percent slaughter ewes,
five percent slaughter lambs, five percent feeder lambs and 45 percent
goats.

Heifers Sharply Higher
Feeder steers sold $4-6 higher, heifers $3-5 higher, fleshy,
unweaned kinds discounted $8-10, slaughter cows and bulls steady,
stock cows and pairs steady. Receipts totaled 2472 head. Mason did not
sell last week, the first week of hunting season.
Domestic Wool Supplies
Short, Australian Prices Mostly Up
U.S. wool trading remains slow, primarily due to limited
supplies. Demand was moderate to good, the best demand for staple
length combing wools, the least for short wools, especially lamb wool
under two inches.

Heifer Price Higher
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $2 higher,
slaughter cows and bulls $1-2 lower, stock cows and pairs $10-20
higher. Receipts totaled 2511 head.
Fredericksburg Feeder
Cattle Prices Steady
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady, slaughter cows and
bulls $1-2 lower. Receipts totaled 828 head.
Billings Feeder Lambs
Find Higher Market
Feeder lambs sold $2-3 higher, slaughter ewes $1-3 higher.
Receipts totaled 996 head.
Most Brownwood Feeder
Cattle Prices Higher
Feeder steers and heifers under 600 pounds sold $2-6 higher,
slaughter cows and bulls steady, stock cows and pairs steady. Receipts
totaled 853 head.
Coleman Feeder Steer,
Heifer Prices Higher
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $1 higher,
slaughter cows and bulls steady, stock cows and pairs steady. Receipts
totaled 398 head.
Producers Internet Offers 1700 Cattle
Producers Internet auctioned offered 1700 feeder cattle from
Florida and Texas, all for current delivery.

Goats Higher
Feeder lambs were scarce, slaughter lambs $5-10 higher,
slaughter goats $8-10 higher. Receipts totaled 2201 head.
Hamilton Sells Most Feeder
Cattle Higher
Yearling steers sold $2-5 higher, calves $4-7 higher, heifer
yearlings higher, calves $3-5 higher, slaughter cows $1-2 lower, bulls
steady, stock cows and pairs steady.

Goats Decline
Feeder lambs were scarce, slaughter lambs steady to firm;
slaughter goats were $12-15 lower. Receipts totaled 4437 head.
Junction Lambs Strong,
Kids, Nannies Lower
Lambs sold strong, other sheep weak; kid goats were $5-8
lower, nannies $5 lower. Receipts totaled 3019 head.
Milano Feeder Steers,
Heifers Trend Steady
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady, slaughter cows and
bulls steady. Receipts totaled 2375 head.
Llano Feeder Steers,
Heifers Move Higher
Feeder steers sold steady to $5 higher, the full advance on
weights under 600 pounds, heifers under 550 pounds $2-3 higher,
heavier weights steady, slaughter cows and bulls weak. Receipts
totaled 1028 head.
Decatur Feeder Calves,
Yearlings Sell Higher
Feeder steer and heifer calves and yearlings sold $1-5
higher, slaughter cows and bulls steady, stock cows and pairs steady.
Receipts totaled 2624 head.
Wehrmann-Donnell Bull
Sale Tops At $12,750
The seventh annual Wehrmann-Donnell bull sale averaged $1910
per head on the 150 bulls sold, including 90 yearlings and 60 coming
two year-olds.
Colorado City Steers
Steady, Heifers Rise
Feeder steers sold mostly steady, heifers $3-4 higher,
slaughter bulls steady, stock cows and pairs steady to $50 higher.
Receipts totaled 365 head.
U.S. Meat Production 3%
Above A Year Ago
Total red meat production under federal inspection last week
was estimated at 946.5 million pounds, 1.8 percent less than a week
earlier and three percent more than a year ago. Cumulative meat
production for the year to date was up 3.4 percent at 40.05 billion
pounds.
Kansas Direct Feeder
Cattle Prices Higher
Feeder steers and heifers moving direct in Kansas were firm
to $1 higher on a light test last week. The weather was mild with
temperatures in the 70s. Wheat has been growing with recent rains and
the warm weather. Sales were confirmed on 6092 head.
Boxed Beef Values Up
$.96 For Week
The national comprehensive boxed beef cutout value of all
steer and heifer sales last week was up 96 cents at $108.54.
