Lamb Meat Prices Take Big Jump
Carcass lamb prices took a major jump last week, ranging $3-9 higher. On Friday central area prices on weights of 30-40 pounds were $180, 40-45 pounds $175-180 averaging $176.28, 45-85 pounds $175-183, averages $179.16-179.63, and 85 pounds and up $175-185, average $181.68. That makes the heavy horses $5.40 above lightweights.

Plains Fed Cattle Stalemated As Feedlots Resist Price Cut
Plains feedlots resisted packer efforts to pull prices below $80 this week, holding out for an increase instead.

Cold Weather Provides Boost For Texas Slaughter Goats
Unseasonally cold temperatures with some snow and sleet created hazardous driving conditions in many areas of West Texas and most markets suffered short supplies, but prices were boosted considerably. Hamilton was $2-5 higher, Junction $8-10 higher and San Angelo $5-10 higher.

Goodlatte Presses EU To Drop GM Food Ban

He cautioned, though, that the moratorium should not be replaced with new regulations on traceability and labeling, which Goodlatte says are unworkable, costly, and do not improve food safety.

Yearling feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $2 lower across the country last week.

Angelo Lambs Steady, Goats, Cattle Higher
Feeder lambs were scarce this week, a few sales $2-3 higher, slaughter lambs steady, slaughter ewes $1-3 higher; nanny goats were firm to $2 higher, kids $5-10 higher. Severe cold weather held receipts to only 3145 head, around 30 percent slaughter ewes, 15 percent slaughter lambs, 10 percent feeder lambs and 45 percent goats.

Fed Cattle Higher As Pipelines Need Filling
Slaughter cattle moving direct across the country last week were $1-2 higher than the bulk of the previous week’s meager trade.

U.S. Meat Production 1.2% Below A Year Ago
Total red meat production under federal inspection last week was estimated at 853.1 million pounds, .8 percent less than a week earlier and 1.2 percent less than a year ago. Cumulative meat production for the year to date was down 1.3 percent at 6.7 billion pounds.

Bad Weather Reduces Milano Cattle Supply
Feeder cattle were scarce due to severe cold weather conditions; slaughter cows sold $1-2 higher, bulls steady. Receipts totaled 264 head.

Hamilton Sheep, Goat Prices Trend Higher
Lambs sold $3-8 higher, ewes $2-5 higher, kid goats $2-5 higher and nannies $4-6 higher. Receipts totaled 2125 head. No report was available on Tuesday’s cattle sale.

Abilene Cattle Prices Steady In Storm Trade
Severe weather conditions held receipts to only 125 head, and all classes sold steady.

Kansas Direct Feeder Steers, Heifers Lower
Feeder steers sold $1-2 lower in Kansas direct trade last week, heifers weak to $2 lower. Rain varied from a trace to one inch. Sales were confirmed on 7874 head.

Boxed Beef Values Decline To $125.21
The national comprehensive boxed beef cutout value report on all fed steers and heifers sold last week showed declined $1.01 to $125.21.

Lampasas Feeder Steer, Heifer Prices Higher
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $1 higher, slaughter cows steady, bulls 50 cents to $1 higher. Receipts totaled 890 head.

Junction Fat Goats Up, Others Steady
Most sheep and goat prices were steady except meat type slaughter goats $8-10 higher. Receipts totaled 1072 head.

January Red Meat Up 4%, Poultry Up 7%
Total red meat supplies in U.S. freezers January 31 were up four percent from a year ago at 1.02 billion pounds. 

Severe Weather Cuts Fredericksburg Count
Receipts totaled only 601 head due to severe weather conditions, however price undertones were steady to firm.

Cuero Feeder Steer, Heifer Prices Strong
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady to strong, some heifers higher, slaughter cows and bulls steady. Receipts totaled 486 head.

January Meat Output Similar To Year Ago
January red meat production at 4.08 billion pounds was relatively unchanged from a year ago; pork was at a record high for the month. January had the same number of weekdays and Saturdays as last year.

Most Coleman Cattle Prices Called Higher
Feeder steers and heifers sold $1-2 higher, slaughter cows and bulls $1-2 higher, stock cows and pairs $10-20 higher. Receipts totaled 753 head.

Domestic Wool Slow, Aussie Wools Higher
Wool trading remains slow except moderate on late season lamb wool. Demand was moderate to good. Lamb wool over two inches was firm to higher. Shearing resumed in most areas except the Ohio Valley and East Coast.

Colorado City Feeder Cattle Prices Steady
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady, slaughter cows and bulls steady to $1 higher, stock cows and pairs steady. Receipts totaled 1651 head.

Fredericksburg Steers Strong, Heifers Up
Feeder steers sold strong, heifers $1-2 higher, slaughter cows and bulls $2-3 higher. Receipts totaled 983 head.

Goldthwaite Goats Sell On Firm Side
Feeder lambs were scarce, slaughter lambs steady, slaughter goats steady to firm. Receipts totaled 419 head.

Mason, San Saba Steer, Heifer Prices Steady
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady last week in Mason and San Saba, slaughter cows and bulls $1-2 higher, stock cows and pairs $10-15 higher. Receipts totaled 743 head at the two sales.
