Lightweight Lambs Lower, Fats Mixed
Feeder lambs moved to lower levels around the country this week with the expectation of a lower fat market during summer. Fat lambs were a little uneven, most heavyweights holding their own with lightweights following the feeder market lower.

Plains Feeders, Packers $5-6 Apart On Prices At Midweek
Plains feedlots and packers stood $5-6 apart on price at midweek following last week’s grudging acceptance — on both sides — of a $1 higher market.

Texas Slaughter Goat Prices Tend To Find Favorable Level

Coleman Feeder Steer, Heifer Prices Higher
Feeder steers and heifers sold $1-2 higher, slaughter cows and bulls steady to $1 lower, stock cows and pairs steady to $20 lower. Receipts totaled 882 head.

Llano Cattle Market Said Active, Strong
Cattle traded active under strong demand on scant receipts of 196 head.

Hamilton Kids, Sheep Lower, Steers Higher
Lambs and ewes sold lower Monday, kids lower and nannies steady. Receipts totaled 1743 head. Tuesday steer calves sold steady, yearlings higher, heifers steady, slaughter cows and bulls higher, stock cows and pairs steady. Receipts totaled 335 head.

U.S. Meat Production 2% Above A Year Ago
Total red meat production under federal inspection last week was estimated at 885 million, .9 percent more than a week earlier and two percent more than a year ago. Cumulative meat production for the year to date was down .5 percent at 10.2 billion pounds.

Junction Sheep, Goat Prices Called Steady
All sheep and goat classes sold steady except meat type nannies $4-8 lower. Receipts totaled 2213 head.

Abilene Steer Calves Steady, Heifers Firm
Feeder calves sold steady, yearlings $1 higher, heifers steady to firm, slaughter cows and bulls steady to firm, stock cows and pairs $10-20 higher. Receipts totaled 1030 head.

Milano Feeder Steer, Heifer Prices Firm
Feeder steers and heifers sold firm to instances $2 higher, slaughter cows $1-2 higher, bulls steady. Receipts totaled 881 head.

Most Fredericksburg Lambs Off, Goats Hold
Feeder lambs sold $5-7 lower, slaughter lambs steady to firm except lightweights $8-10 lower; slaughter goats were steady. Receipts totaled 2718 head.

Red Meat In Freezers Up 1% From Year Ago
Total red meat supplies in freezers February 28 were one percent above a year ago at 980.7 million pounds.

G 13 Angus Ranch Sells 85 Head
G 13 Angus Ranch sale on March 9 moved 39 mature bulls, 32 yearling bulls and 14 heifers.

February Cattle Kill Down 2%, Hogs Up 3%
Commercial red meat production for the United States totaled 3.5 billion pounds in February, virtually unchanged from February 2002. Both Februarys had the same number of weekdays.

Boxed Beef Values Lose More Ground
The national comprehensive boxed beef cutout report on all fed steers and heifers sold last week showed a decline of 89 cents to $122.11. This is the sixth weekly decline in the last eight weeks, for a loss of $7.82.

Mason, San Saba Calves Higher, Yearlings Off
Feeder yearlings sold steady to $2 lower last week, calves $1-3 higher, slaughter cows and bulls steady to $2 higher, stock cows and pairs strong. Receipts totaled 1807 head at the two sales.

Domestic Wool Slow, Aussie Wools Lower
Wool trading was slow last week, demand light to moderate. Lower prices continue on the Australia and New Zealand markets and pressure is being felt in U.S. markets.

Cuero Feeder Steers, Heifers Trend Higher
Feeder steers and heifers sold $2-5 higher, slaughter cows $1.50-3 higher. Receipts totaled 947 head.

Lampasas Feeder Steer, Heifer Prices Steady
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady to instances $1 lower, slaughter cows steady, bulls $1 higher. Receipts totaled 490 head.

Goldthwaite Feeder Lambs, Goats Lower
Feeder lambs sold $5-10 lower, slaughter lambs steady $5 higher, the advance on heavyweights, slaughter goats $3-5 lower. Receipts totaled 3240 head.

Fredericksburg Feeder Cattle Prices Strong
Feeder steers and heifers sold strong, slaughter cows and bulls steady. Receipts totaled 749 head.
