Lamb Markets Take Holiday Rest Period
Most Texas markets were closed this week in celebration of the Fourth of July holiday. 
The feeder lamb trade was about steady on limited activity. Recent direct trade was a couple of dollars lower in Texas, but a couple of dollars higher on Western ranges. The fat lamb markets in the Midwest were weak to $3 lower. Goldthwaite was steady.

Plains Cattle Feeders May Have Arrested Price Slide; Earn $75
After three weeks of giving up ground, Plains cattle feeders appear to have declared independence and arrested their price slide this week.

Superior Livestock Auction offered 118,000 mostly feeder cattle in their special Cornbelt Classic video sale. Consignments were from 25 states. Yearling steers sold $2 higher and yearling heifers steady to $2 higher, steer and heifer calves steady.

Angelo Feeder Cattle Prices On Firm Side
Feeder steers and heifers sold firm to $1 higher last week, slaughter cows and bulls $1-2 higher, stock cows and pairs firm to moderately higher. Receipts totaled 1850 head, around 50 percent feeders, 30 percent slaughter cows and bulls and 20 percent stock cows and pairs.

Cuero Feeder Steers, Heifers Move Higher
Feeder steers and heifers sold $2-4 higher except lightweights lower, slaughter cows and bulls $2.50-5 higher. Receipts totaled 1356 head.

Coleman Feeder Steer, Heifer Prices Steady
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady, slaughter cows and bulls $2-3 higher, stock cows and pairs $10-20 higher. Receipts totaled 703 head.

Colorado City Feeder Steers, Heifers Mixed
Feeder steers and heifers under 500 pounds sold steady to $1 higher, heavier weights steady to $2 lower, slaughter cows and bulls $1-3 higher, stock cows and pairs $10-25 higher.

Abilene Feeder Steer, Heifer Trade Steady
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady, slaughter cows and bulls steady to firm, stock cows and pairs $10-20 higher. Receipts totaled 801 head.

U.S. Meat Production 2% Below A Year Ago
Total red meat production under federal inspection last week was estimated at 915.1 million pounds, .2 percent more than a week ago and two percent less than a year ago. Cumulative meat production for the year to date was down .3 percent at 22.6 billion pounds.

Hamilton Cattle, Lambs Steady, Kids Higher
Lambs sold steady on Monday, slaughter ewes $3-5 higher, meat type slaughter kid goats $2-4 higher, nannies steady. Receipts totaled 1813 head. All cattle classes sold steady Tuesday on receipts of 207 head.

Domestic Wool Slow, Aussie Wools Lower
Wool trading was nearly at a standstill in most direct trading areas last week. Demand was light to moderate, as were supplies. Short feedlot lamb wool was mostly steady, other classes not well tested.

U.S. 2003 Crop Acres Similar To Year Ago
June U.S. corn plantings for all purposes are estimated at 79.1 million acres, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service. This is virtually unchanged from 2002 but four percent above 2001.

Most Billings Sheep Dealt Lower Prices
Feeder lambs sold $5-10 lower Monday, slaughter ewes steady to $1 lower. Receipts totaled 2434 head.

Most Mason, San Saba Feeder Cattle Steady
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady last week in Mason and San Saba, slaughter cows and bulls $1-3 higher, stock cows and pairs $5-10 higher. Receipts totaled 1188 head.

Goldthwaite Lambs, Goats Sell Steady
Slaughter lambs and stock and slaughter goats all sold steady on receipts of 3485 head.

Boxed Beef Values Continue Decline
The national comprehensive boxed beef cutout report on all fed steers and heifers sold last week dropped another $1.47 to settle at $127.68.

Most Junction Sheep, Goats Steady, Kids Off
Most sheep and goats sold steady except lightweight slaughter meat type kids $3-5 lower. Receipts totaled 4548 head.
