Plains Feedlots Gain $1-1.50
In Fairly Active Early Trade
Plains feedlots racked up another strong performance this week,
selling mostly on Tuesday and adding $1-1.50 to last week’s
aggressive showing.
The Texas Cattle Feeders Association counted 49,500 head selling in
their trade area at anywhere from $81 to $82.50, mostly $82. The
showlist was down about 3500 head at 78,013, captives up marginally at
50,250 head.
Kansas moved about 72,000 at $82-82.50, and another 65,000 or so
traded in Nebraska and Colorado at $82-83.50 live and $130-132
dressed. Better cattle on Midwest terminals brought $81.50-82.50.
Stocker and feeder cattle prices were uneven across the country but
mostly on the higher side.
Joplin, Mo. sold 5500 head and called steers $2-5 higher, heifers
$1-3 higher. A roundup of four Florida auctions totaled 6132 head
between them and declined to call an overall trend; individual trends
held about steady.
In Texas, Three Rivers was steady to $1 higher on 1752 head,
Crockett $1-2 higher on 2063. Amarillo sold 2521 head at steady to $2
lower rates on weights under 600 pounds, steady to $2 higher on
heavier kinds. With 2695 head on hand, Hallettsville was $3-5 higher
on steers under 600 pounds, $1 higher on heavier steers, $2 higher on
heifers under 600, and steady on heavier weights.
Oklahoma City receipts came to 11,865 head. Feeder weights were
steady to $2 higher, weaned calves mostly steady and unweaned calves
steady to $5 lower. Best 350-400 pound steer calves brought $108-117;
400-450 pounds $106-113; 450-500 pounds $101-109.50; 500-550 pounds
$95-107; 550-600 pounds $93.50-105.50; 600-650 pounds $92-101; 650-700
pounds $94-99; thin 550-600 pound yearlings $102.50-109; 600-700
pounds $100-106.50; 700-750 pounds $99-103; 750-800 pounds
$96.75-98.75; 800-850 pounds $91-98; and 860 pounds $90.50.
