Meat In Freezers
10% Below Year Ago

WASHINGTON —(USDA)— Red meat supplies in freezers July 31 totaled 774.47 million pounds, down three percent from June and 10 percent below July 2002.

Frozen beef supplies were down 11 percent from a year ago at 370.77 million pounds, boneless beef was down 11 percent at 320 million pounds, and beef cuts were down 10 percent at 50.78 million pounds.

Frozen pork was eight percent below a year ago at 433.58 million pounds, hams were down 11 percent at 121.2 million pounds, bellies up eight at 32.2 million pounds, loins down 15 percent at 22 million pounds, and ribs down seven percent at 48.6 million pounds.

Veal supplies were up four percent at 3.8 million pounds and lamb and mutton was down 58 percent at 5.9 million pounds.

Poultry supplies were down 12 percent at 1.39 billion pounds. Chickens were down 26 percent at 645.8 million pounds, turkeys up five percent at 742.2 million pounds, and ducks down 39 percent at 4.3 million pounds.
