Domestic Wool Slow,
Aussie Wools Lower
GREELEY, Colo. —(USDA)— Domestic wool trading was slow to very
slow last week, demand light to moderate. Supplies remain light and in
strong hands.
In Territory trading, Oregon sold 80,000 pounds of original bag,
bellies in, 12-month ewe wool, 30-34 micron, high yielding, at $.40
f.o.b. grease, lamb wool 2.5 inch or longer 28-30 micron $.40;
Midwestern states, 90,000 pounds OB, BI staple whiteface ewe wool,
22-25 micron $.80-.90 f.o.b. grease, crossbred 26-30 micron $.60-.70,
lamb wool 1-2.5 inch, mostly 1.5 inch, whiteface 21-23 micron $.70,
crossbred 24-28 micron $.50-.60; Texas 20,000 pounds, OB, BI, lamb
wool 1-1.5 inch average yield, 19-21 micron $.37 f.o.b. grease,
crossbred 23-25 micron $.27.
In warehouse trading, 80,000 pounds of 20-20.5 micron, low
yielding, 2.9-3 inch $2.15 f.o.b. clean, 24-25 micron $1.86-1.95,
26-27 micron $1.70.
Australia’s eastern market indicator was down 14 to close at 912A
cents per kilo clean, last year 913. A total of 45,994 bales were
offered with clearance at 81 percent. In futures trading at Sidney, 21
micron grease contracts for August were down 14 at $3.02 U.S. f.o.b.
Sydney, October down six at $3.06, December down two at $3.03,
February down four at $3.01, April down three at $3.01, and June down
two at $3.01. The 19 micron clean wool contracts for August were up
five at $3.13, October down four at $3.12, December down four at
$3.14, and February down three at $3.15. The 23 micron clean wool
contracts for August were up four at $2.95, October down nine at
$2.92, December down eight at $2.91, and February down eight at $2.90.
The Australian dollar is .6555 to the U.S. dollar compared to .5424
last year.
New Zealand wool indicators were mixed, the fine indicator up 161
at 1100NZ cents per kilo clean, medium up 14 at 686, strong wool down
three at 428, and lamb wool up 10 at 467. A total of 12,422 bales were
offered with sales at 80 percent. The New Zealand dollar was .5873 to
the U.S. dollar compared to .4416 last year.
Texas mohair trading was slow following the previous week’s
activity. Adult hair was steady to $.05 higher, 140,000 pounds of OB
adult, 34-38 micron, bringing $.85-.90 f.o.b. grease.
