The subject of importation of plain and medium quality
cattle in great numbers from East Texas and points farther
east than that has been touched on in previous issues of this
paper, but perhaps it could stand a little further discussion. |

The Rusty Anchor Saloon is in Capitan, New Mexico. With a name
like that, it deserves to be there.

Shortgrass Country
Before leaving for Canada, I called Linblad
Expeditions to know whether we were going to make wet landings
on the trip up the Inland Passage. That’s important to know,
as rubber boots take up a lot of space. Shoes seasoned in the
shortgrass country take days to dry on a ship in a humid
climate. |

Its The Pitts
I'm a farm sale fanatic. A junk junkie. I admit it, I
am addicted to farm, garage and yard sales. It's a
debilitating and costly disease, and judging by the
ever-growing crowds gathering at these events, I'd say there
are many poor souls similarly afflicted. |

The Rob Hailey Ranch, located just north of Abilene,
marked the end of the line for Quail Odyssey 2003. Last
week’s conclusion featured tours of the Rio 42 Ranch owned
by Mary Helen and Bailey Campbell, the Ramsey Ranch owned by
Bud Ramsey, and the Hailey Ranch. The triad made for a good
conclusion to the October quail tours. |

The Computer
& The Cowboy
Another reason to have a computer connected to the Internet is
to check your bank balance before you write a check at 5 a.m.
when there isn’t anyone at the bank who can take a phone
call. That service just became available to me with my
hometown bank. I goofed a couple of weeks back, complaining
that they weren’t with the program, but they are now in the
21st century and I am happy.
