Texas Slaughter Goats Find
Higher Market Prices Again
Meat type slaughter goats moving through Texas markets found higher
prices again this week. Most rates were firm to $5 higher.
Goat slaughter under federal inspection around the country last
week totaled 12,908 head.
There were 827 slaughter goats exported to Mexico last week. The
year to date volume through Tuesday was down 19 percent from a year
ago at 18,848 head.
Goat meat imported last week was 215 metric tons, or around 473,000
pounds. Australia was the source of 181 metric tons; the rest came
from New Zealand.
In Lometa 36-45 pound meat type kids brought $95-114, 50-70 pounds
also $95-114, 70-90 pounds $90-108, and over 100 pounds $70-90.
Nannies were $55-64 and billies $65-84.
Goldthwaite had 25-40 pound kids at $105-115, 40-60 pounds
$110-117.50 and 60-80 pounds $100-112. Nannies 80-130 pounds made
$45-57, billies 100-200 pounds $65-75, and muttons 90-120 pounds
$90-100.
Hamilton moved 20-40 pound kids at $104-113, 40-70 pounds $103-112
and over 70 pounds $93-104. Nannies brought $45-72 and billies $71-80.
San Angelo kids 25-40 pounds were $110-118, 40-60 pounds $104-113,
a few $116, 60-80 pounds $100-110, including a 483-head consignment
averaging 71 pounds at $105; a couple of lots moved at $112 and $119,
80-100 pound kids $94-100 and 100-120 pounds muttons $85-89. Nannies
80-125 pounds brought $48-59, 130-200 pounds $40-51, billies 100-150
pounds $70-79, and 150-250 pounds $65-75.
Meat type kids weighing 40-60 pounds moved direct in West Texas at
$98-105 and 60-80 pounds $95-100.
Kids 20-40 pounds in the Eastern Cornbelt moved direct at $98-103
and 40-60 pounds $88-95.
