Cotton McDade of Clayton, New Mexico, last weekend bought 500 Angus
mixed calves expected to weigh around 425 pounds from Joe Smith and
Son of Dalhart for October 27 and 28 delivery at $18 and $20 cwt. for
heifers and steers, respectively. These are the Higgins Ranch calves,
raised at Texline and described as strictly choice.

Joe Mimms of Roswell, New Mexico, is reported to have sold 400
mixed feeder lambs this week at $14.25 cwt.

Paul Pruitt of Clovis bought 80 steer calves from Red Best of
Floyd, New Mexico, at $15, October 6 delivery.

Lem Jones of Junction this week bought 200 Brahman cows, some with
calves at side, from Nelson Letho of Balmorhea at eight cents a pound.

358 pounds at $14 and $15, October 2 delivery, to Wallace Locke of
Amarillo.

J.C. Thomas Jr., Plainview, sold 96 cows weighing 867 pounds at $22
cwt., located near Roscoe, Texas, and delivered them last weekend to
Pete Timmons of Matador. Thomas bought two loads of Brangus cows,
threes to sixes weighing around 900, with 400-pound calves on them, at
$275 per pair and received them Nov. 3 from Holt Holloway, Lubbock.

C.V. Lowe of Gruver, Texas, sold 147 plain quality black steer
yearlings weighing 728 pounds at $24 to Carl Frank, Guymon, Okla.,
delivered last Saturday.

Tommy Deal of Panhandle, Texas, sold 113 Angus-Hereford crossbred
heifer and steer calves weighing 483 pounds at $32 straight across to
JJ Cattle Co., Panhandle.

Henry Cone of Canyon bought one load of five year-old cows with
five calves on them from Bob Miller of Melrose, N.M., at $160 per cow;
and a load of cows with two calves at $180 from Earl Lipe of Canyon.

L.D. Littlefield of Groom, Texas, bought 400 mixed breed heifer and
steer calves weighing near 400 pounds at $113 per head and received
them from a Mr. Schaffer of Del Norte, Colo.

Billy Brewster, Dalhart, sold 235 heifer yearlings weighing 570 at
$17.75 to Burlington Cattle Co., Burlington, Okla., delivered Oct. 26;
also 275 steer yearlings weighing 650 at $18.75 to Cecil Cornelius of
Denver, delivered last weekend.

Joe Rountree of Lutie, Texas, bought 234 mixed breed steers
weighing 743 net at $18 with 10 percent cut at $16 and received them
last week in the Shamrock area.

Doc Collier, representing Ebner Bros. Packing Co., Wichita Falls,
this week bought 134 good steers and heifers averaging 800 pounds from
Macon Boddy, Wichita Falls, at $20 out of the Clayco Cattle Co.
feedlot at Petrolia. Collier also bought 90 high good heifers weighing
700 pounds from Don Howard of Waurika, Okla., at $20.50.

The O Bar Ranch at Guymon, Okla., sold 250 good Hereford steers
weighing about 600 pounds at $19.50 and delivered them late last week
to a Texhoma buyer.

Jerry Thomason of Pampa sold 119 steers estimated to weigh about
500 or a little better at $102.50 per head to a local buyer, delivered
last week.

Total red meat production under federal inspection last week was
estimated at 623 million pounds, slightly above the previous week and
nine percent above a year ago.

Cattle entering Texas from Mexico totaled 1650 head during October,
reports the Texas Animal Health Commission. Imports to Texas from
January to September this year totaled 128,891 compared with 271,164
in the same period last year.

a December payment.

Meat passed for entry into the United States totaled 30.3 million
pounds last week, the equivalent of three percent of the 892.5 million
pounds of domestic production. Most of the meat, 16.3 million pounds,
was from Australia.

Lamb and mutton passed for entry into the United States moved up to
944 metric tons last week, or 2.1 million pounds and the equivalent of
44 percent of domestic production.

There was a little good wool news from Australia last week; the
eastern market indicator moved up 19A cents per kilo and more than 90
percent sold. New Zealand was higher for the second consecutive week.
