Aussie Wool Softer,
Texas Mohair Firm

GREELEY, Colo. —(USDA)— Domestic wool trading was at a standstill last week. Demand was light to moderate with most interests trying to lower bids in relation to world prices, stronger world currencies, limited forward business and reduced supplies.

In Territory trading, Idaho reported numerous fall shorn clips totaling 150,000 pounds consigned to either warehouses or mills for sale at a later date.

Midwestern states’ sales included 30,000 pounds of native lamb wool, whiteface, 24-28 micron 1-2 inch at $.15-.30, crossbred and blackface 28-32 micron $.10-.20, whiteface ewe wool, staple, 24-28 micron ,three-inch plus, $.30-.60, crossbred and blackface 28-34 micron $.20-.30.

Australia’s eastern market indicator was down three to close at 807A cents per kilo clean, last year 1135. A total of 52,304 bales were offered with clearance at 85 percent. In futures trading at Sydney the 21 micron grease contracts for December were down two at $2.79 U.S. f.o.b. Sydney, February down two at $2.81, April down two at $2.80, June down two at $2.80, August down two at $2.78, and October down two at $278. The 19 micron clean wool contracts for December were down two at $3.02, February down one at $3.07, April unchanged at $3.12, and June up four at $3.17. The 23 micron clean wool contracts for December were unchanged at $2.72, February down three at $2.70, April down three at $2.70, and June down five at $2.69. The Australian dollar is .7060 of the U.S. dollar compared to .5500 last year, an increase of 28 percent.

New Zealand wool information was not available. The New Zealand dollar is .6121 U.S., compared to .4833 last year, an increase of 27 percent.

Mohair trading in Texas was slow to moderate and demand moderate. Adult hair was steady to five cents higher, yearling firm. A total of 367,000 pounds was reported, original bag, adult 34-38 micron $.90-1.05 f.o.b. the warehouse, mostly $.95-1.05, a part load of adult tops $2.08, yearling 31-33 micron $2-2.90, the $2.90 hair finer than 31 micron. Fall kid hair sold at $4.65.
