Plains Fed Cattle Bids Vague,
But Not Up To Asking Prices
Plains cattle feeders were asking $105-108 at presstime against
vague bids ranging from $100 to $104. Last week’s trade opened at
$102 and ended at $105.
The Texas Cattle Feeders Association counted 47,535 head on
showlists in their trade area, down more than 2200 head from last
week. Captive supplies, at 26,802, were up enough to just about
balance the account.
Direct trade was quiet elsewhere as well, Northern Plains bids of
$105 going begging against asking prices of $107-110. Midwest
terminals were paying anywhere from $101 to $108, bulk $104-105.
Stocker and feeder cattle prices ranged steady to higher across the
country this week.
Joplin, Mo. was mostly steady on 6100 head and a roundup of four
Florida auctions was steady to $1 higher on 6695 head between them. La
Junta, Colo. declined to quote a trend on about 1300 head. In Texas,
Hallettsville was steady to $2 higher on 2908 head, Three Rivers the
same on 1839 head. Amarillo termed 2842 head steady to $1 higher and
Crockett was $2-3 higher on 2064 head.
San Angelo’s monthly special feeder cattle sale Monday featured
1764 head and was $1-3 higher, instances $5 higher.
With 8426 head on offer, Oklahoma City found feeder weights steady
and calves steady to $3 higher. Best 300-400 pound steer calves
brought $124-138; 400-500 pounds $112-129.50; 500-550 pounds $105-118;
550-600 pounds $99-110.75; 600-700 pounds $97-110; 700-725 pound
calves $96.50-101;; yearlings, 600-700 pounds $105.75-109; 700-775
pounds $105.75-107.75; and 800-850 pounds $100.75-103.50.
