Clint Corey Returns To NFR
After Missing Cut In 2002

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — With Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifications on the line, guys like Clint Corey and Joey Bell Jr., cinched it up at the Pace Picante ProRodeo Classic in Dallas and are now heading to Las Vegas.

Clint Corey, Powell Butte, Ore., can start a new streak. Corey, who had his string of 17 consecutive NFR qualifications snapped last year, will return to Las Vegas this year. He won a little more than $3000 at the ProRodeo Classic, presented by the Texas Stampede, last weekend and jumped from 16th to 14th as the ProRodeo regular season came to a close.

Corey wasn't the only contestant whose season continued thanks to solid showings in Dallas.

Steer wrestler Joey Bell Jr., Salem, N.J., also bagged around $3000 and jumped up the all-important spot from 16th to 15th. Bell, in contention for a world title heading into the 10th round at the 2002 Wrangler NFR, will now get his chance to take care of some unfinished business.

Two bull riders also climbed into the Top 15 this week. Bryan Richardson, Dallas, Texas, pleased the hometown crowd by not only winning his event title, but the $22,520 he won moved him from 18th to seventh in the final world standings. William Farrell, Thermopolis, Wyo., certainly took advantage of the championship events as well. He won more than $7000 at the Finale, then bagged more than $8000 at the Pace Classic. The win in Dallas allowed him to clinch his first Wrangler NFR berth by moving from 19th to 14th.

Barrel racers McKenzie Brower, the Classic's runner-up, made the NFR cut by moving from 17th to 11th, while Janae Ward won an event-high $14,981 and secured her second straight NFR qualification. Ward won the 2002 Dallas event, which catapulted her to her first NFR.

Elsewhere, most other event champions solidified their NFR positioning. Will Lowe, Canyon, Texas, who won all three Series events, opened up a lead of nearly $54,000 heading into the NFR. Steer wrestling champ Frank Thompson, Cheyenne, Wyo., moved into third, pulling to within $4000 of standings leader Shawn Greenfield, Lakeview, Ore.

Dallas team roping champions Chad Masters, Adams, Tenn., and Michael Jones, Stephenville, Texas, moved into fifth place in their respective events, while Dan Erickson jumped up five spots to eighth in the saddle bronc riding standings.

Tie-down roping champion Ricky Hyde, Mount Vernon, Ark., was a last-minute replacement for Blair Burk, Durant, Okla., who underwent an emergency appendectomy Oct. 30 and was unable to compete. Hyde had already reached his limit of competing in 50 PRCA rodeos during the season prior to the Classic. He won all three rounds and won a Classic-high $26,535.

In the Jack Daniel’s all-around standings, Trevor Brazile, Decatur, Texas, leads with $198,288 in season earnings to date. He is followed by Blair Burk, Durant, Okla., with $128,395; Jesse Bail, Camp Crook, S.D., $125,563; Rich Skelton, Llano, Texas, $124,049; and Cody Ohl, Stephenville, Texas, $119,866.
