Slaughter Lamb Prices Mixed, Feeders Scarce
Feeder lamb numbers were limited again, and packers frequently took what was available to meet the seasonal demand for lightweight carcasses. Fat lambs were very uneven with Midwest markets as much as $6 lower and San Angelo weak to $2 lower, while the Fredericksburg market was $5-10 higher.

Plains Feedlots Asking $96-97, Packers Offering $91-92 Bids
Plains fed cattle trade was quiet at midweek once again, packers bidding $91-92 and feedlots asking $96-97. Observers speculated that a late-week market might develop at $94-95.

Texas Slaughter Meat Type Kid Goats Find Much Higher Market
Slaughter kid goats found much higher prices this week at most Texas auctions. Hamilton was $3-5 higher on Monday and Junction was $5-10 up. On Tuesday, San Angelo was firm to $5 up and Fredericksburg $5-7 higher.

Feeder steers and heifers sold mostly steady, slaughter cows and bulls steady. Receipts totaled 577 head.

Total livestock exports to Mexico through Texas ports for the year to date through December 16 were down 66 percent to 333,297 head.

U.S. Meat Production .8% Below A Year Ago
Total red meat production under federal inspection last week was estimated at 896.5 million pounds, .7 percent more than a week earlier and .8 percent less than a year ago. Cumulative meat production for the year to date was down 1.3 percent at 43.98 billion pounds.

Most Mason, San Saba Yearlings Sell Steady
Feeder steer and heifer yearlings sold steady to strong last week in Mason and San Saba, heifer calves $2 lower, slaughter cows and bulls $1-3 lower, stock cows and pairs steady. Receipts totaled 5027 head at the two sales.

Kansas Direct Feeder Cattle Prices Lower
Feeder steers sold $1-3 lower, heifers $1-2 lower. The weather was cold with traces to eight inches of snow. Sales were confirmed on 5234 head.

San Saba Special Cow Sale Prices Strong
Cows with calves, bred cows and heifers sold strong at a special replacement cattle sale, some bred cows and heifers $25-50 higher. Receipts totaled 3230 head.

Boxed Beef Values Lose $4.29 Last Week
The national comprehensive boxed beef cutout report on all fed steers and heifers sold last week dropped $4.29 to $147.05, a 10-week low and $24.59 below the high point of October 17. Major cuts took the most losses.

Commercial Angus Sale Females Average $976
A total of 1121 commercial Angus females from five ranches averaged $976 per head in the Profit Proven replacement sale. The five Kansas ranches were Giles Ranch, Clark County; XIT Ranch, Meade and Seward counties; Irsik Ranch, Finney County; Mule Creek Ranch, Comanche County; and Merrill Ranch, Comanche County.

Feeder steers and heifers sold $2-3 lower, slaughter cows steady, bulls $2-4 higher. Receipts totaled 416 head.

Colorado City Feeder Steers, Heifers Lower
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $1 lower, slaughter cows and bulls $3-5 lower, bred stock cows $20 higher, pairs steady. Receipts totaled 390 head.

Most Junction Sheep, Goats Steady, Kids Up
Most sheep and goats sold steady, except meat type kids $5-10 higher. Receipts totaled 1213 head.

Domestic Lamb Wool Firm, Aussie Wool Lower, Texas Mohair Steady
Wool trading remained slow across the U.S. last week. Demand was moderate with an increased interest and firm undertone on lamb wool, especially that longer than two inches.
