Boxed Beef Values
Up $17.83 For Year
DES MOINES, Iowa —(USDA)— The national comprehensive boxed beef
cutout report on all fed steers and heifers sold last week declined
$11.87 from two weeks earlier, before the holidays and since the
discovery of a cow with BSE in Washington state, at $137.24. That is
still $17.83 more than at the same time last year.
There were 21 loads of Prime at an average price of $175.16, 245
loads branded at $146.99, 1589 loads Choice at $139.62, 813 loads
Select at $132.35, and 1642 loads ungraded at $130.18.
The average price on ribs was $219.78, chucks $107.80, rounds
$121.09, loins $190.21, briskets $94.06, short plates $89.69, and
flanks $77.19.
There was a total of 4310 loads, including 1769 domestic and seven
export, with 2080 loads negotiated for delivery within 21 days, 186
loads negotiated for over 21 days, 1769 formula contracts and 275
forward contracts.
