Wool Slow,
Aussie Wools Lower
GREELEY, Colo. —(USDA)— Domestic
wool trading remained slow through mid-month under moderate demand for
light supplies.
In Territory trading, South Dakota sold
20,000 pounds of original bag, bellies out and untied, staple length,
25-26 micron at $.80 f.o.b. grease, crossbred 26-28 micron $.45;
California and Arizona consigned 80,000 pounds of lamb wool to
warehouses for later sale.
Midwestern states sold 40,000 pounds
OB, BI, staple length fleece wool fine whiteface, 24-26 micron, at
$.50-.60 f.o.b. grease, usually bellies in; medium whiteface, 26-29
micron $.35-50; blackface 28-34 micron $.20-.25; lamb wool 2-2.5 inch
whiteface, 23-26 micron $.25-.40; and crossbred 26-30 micron $.15-.25.
Texas reported 35,000 pounds OB, BI,
eight-month wool 1.75-2 inch, 20-22 micron, paint free at $1.90 clean
f.o.b.
Mohair trading was slow in Texas as
well totaling 80,000 pounds of OB, mostly fall and spring kid hair,
less than 26 micron, at $5 f.o.b. grease, 26-27.5 micron $4.50,
27.5-28.6 micron $4, 28.6-30 micron $3, 30-32 micron $3, adult hair
34-88 micron $1.34, and one load adult 34-38 micron $1.37.
Australian markets closed the
week lower, the eastern market indicator down 16 at 811A cents per
kilo clean. A total of 56,848 bales were offered with sales at 88
percent. On Sydney futures markets, in U.S. dollars per pound f.o.b.
Sydney, the 21 micron grease wool contract was down two at $3.07 for
February, April up 28 at $3.10, June up 28 at $3.92, August up 28 at
$3.14, October up 24 at $3.09, and December up 33 at $3.08. The 19
micron clean wool contracts for February were down 17 at $3.46, April
up 35 at $3.51, June up 39 at $3.58, and August up 43 at $3.62. The 23
micron clean wool contracts for February moved down four at $2.75,
April down 15 at $2.77, June down 15 at $2.77, and August down 21 at
$2.79. The Australian dollar was .7672 U.S. compared to .5812 last
year, an increase of 35 percent.
