U.S. Meat Production 1.6% Below A Year Ago
Total red meat production under federal inspection last week was estimated at 835.5 million pounds, 2.4 percent less than a week earlier and 1.6 percent less than a year ago. Cumulative meat production for the year to date was down 6.3 percent at 6.2 billion pounds.

Joint U.S., Canada Cattle Count Lower
The joint U.S and Canada cattle inventory as of Jan. 1 totaled 109.5 million head, down slightly from a year ago. All cows and heifers that have calved, at 47.9 million head, were up slightly.

Billings Lamb Prices Move Sharply Higher
Feeder lambs weighing less than 90 pounds sold $3-6 higher, heavier weights $10-11 higher, slaughter ewes $3-5 lower. Receipts totaled 1378 head.
