Feeder lambs held fairly steady at most markets this week, Fredericksburg the exception at $5-10 higher. Slaughter lambs were steady to $2 higher with Midwest markets as much at $8 higher.

U.S. Meat Production 3.5% Below A Year Ago
Total red meat production under federal inspection last week was estimated at 836.4 million pounds, .1 percent more than a week earlier and 3.5 percent less than a year ago. Cumulative meat production for the year to date was down six percent at 7.04 billion pounds.

Angelo Fat Lambs Up, Cattle Steady
Feeder lambs were not well tested this week but weakness was noted, slaughter lambs sold firm to $2 higher, slaughter ewes weak to $2 lower; nannies were $5-10 lower and kids weak to $5 lower, instances $10 lower. Receipts totaled 8112 head, around 25 percent feeder lambs, 20 percent slaughter lambs, 15 percent slaughter ewes and 40 percent goats.

Most Junction Sheep, Goat Classes Lower
Lambs sold $1-3 lower, ewes and bucks mostly $2 lower, choice kids steady, lower quality $1-3 lower, nannies steady to $2 lower, billies steady. Receipts totaled 1377 head.

Livestock Exports To Mexico Up 10%
Livestock exports to Mexico through Texas ports for the first two months of 2004 were up 10 percent from a year ago at 91,306 head. Imported meat the week ending January 17 was up 19 percent at 38,872 metric tons.

Mason, San Saba Feeder Cattle Prices Strong
Feeder steer and heifer calves and yearlings sold steady to strong last week in Mason and San Saba, slaughter cows and bulls $2-4 lower. Receipts totaled 425 head at the two sales.

Milano Feeder Steers, Heifers Mostly Steady
Feeder steers and heifers were mostly steady, slaughter cows steady to $1 higher, bulls $1-3 lower. Receipts totaled 335 head.

Abilene Feeder Steer, Heifer Prices Higher
Feeder steers and heifers sold $2-3 higher, slaughter cows $1-2 higher, bulls $1 lower, stock cows and pairs $20-30 higher. Receipts totaled 841 head.

Comanche Feeder Steer, Heifer Prices Steady
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady, slaughter cows and bulls steady. Receipts totaled 168 head.

Fredericksburg Lambs Higher, Goats Steady
Feeder lambs sold $5-10 higher, slaughter lambs steady, slaughter goats steady. Receipts totaled 3063 head.

Brownwood Calves, Yearlings Higher
Feeder calves and yearlings sold steady to $3 higher, slaughter cows and bulls steady, stock cows and pairs steady to $50 higher. Receipts totaled 657 head.

Boxed Beef Values Make Upward Move
The national comprehensive boxed beef cutout report on all fed steers and heifers sold last week moved up $4.25. It was only the third weekly advance this year and the index remains $19 below its December close.

Goldthwaite Lambs Mixed, Goats Lower
Slaughter lambs sold steady except lightweights $5-10 lower; goats were $5-10 lower. Receipts totaled 3040 head.

Rain Trims Coleman Feeder Cattle Count
Feeder cattle were too limited for a market test due to heavy rain and muddy conditions; slaughter cows and bulls sold $2-3 lower, stock cows and pairs $20-30 higher. Receipts totaled 521 head.

Lampasas Feeder Steer, Heifer Prices Steady
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady, slaughter cows $2-3 lower, bulls $1.50-2.50 lower. Receipts totaled 276 head.

Superior Livestock Video Sale Offering Totals 32,000 Head
Superior Livestock Auction offered more than 32,000 feeder cattle and bred stock in their regularly scheduled video sale. Yearlings sold $1-2 higher, calves $5-7 higher.

Hamilton Feeder Cattle Up, Kids, Lambs Lower
Lambs sold steady to $2 lower Monday, kids steady to $5 lower, ewes and nannies steady. Receipts totaled 2541 head. Feeder steer calves sold $3-5 lower Tuesday, yearlings $4-6 higher, heifer calves $1-2 higher, yearlings $3-5 higher, slaughter cows and bulls steady, stock cows and pairs steady. Receipts totaled 341 head.
