Plains Fed Cattle Gain $2-3
Again In Movement At Midweek
Plains feedlots succeeded in adding another $2-3 to the going price
for fed cattle this week. It marks the third week in a row of price
advances.
The Texas Cattle Feeders Association counted 38,000 head selling in
their trade area through Wednesday afternoon, the volume about evenly
split at $87 and $88 compared to mostly $85 last week. The area
showlist stood at 66,586 head, down about 1500, and captives added
another 36,976, up fewer than 1000 head.
Elsewhere, direct prices ranged $87-88 live and $140-142 dressed.
Midwest terminals paid generally $85 to $87.75.
Stocker and feeder cattle prices climbed in most areas for another
week.
Joplin, Mo. termed 5000 head $3-6 higher on steers and steady to $3
higher on heifers. A roundup of four Florida auctions was steady to $2
higher on cumulative receipts of 3615 head. La Junta, Colo. offered
3586 head and found steers under 550 pounds steady, 550-700 pounders
$3-5 higher, and heavier weights $1-2 higher; heifers under 400 pounds
and over 700 pounds were steady, the balance $2-4 higher.
In Texas, Hallettsville was $2-5 higher on 1200 head, Three Rivers
$3-6 higher on 1012, and Crockett $4-5 higher on fewer than 1000. With
1828 head on hand, Amarillo was steady to $3 higher on weights over
500 pounds except for a steady to $3 lower trend on seven to
eight-weight heifers; weights under 500 pounds were poorly tested.
Oklahoma City’s 10,514 head were steady on feeder weights and
steady to $3 higher on stockers. Best 350-400 pound pound steer calves
brought $134-136; 400-500 pounds $124.50-129.50, fleshy $118-125.50;
500-550 pounds $111-123.50; 550-600 pounds $103-117.50; 600-650 pounds
$96.25-108; 650-700 pounds $92.25-103.50; 700-750 pounds $88.25-94.75,
a few stockers to $96; 750-800 pounds $85.75-89.75; 800-850 pounds
$84-87.50; 850-900 pounds $84.50-86.75; 900-1000 pounds $82.25-86.25;
and 1000-1050 pounds $81.25-82.
