Texas Feeder, Fat Lambs Hold Steady
Fat and feeder lambs in Texas markets were steady this week. Volume remains limited, and most of the feeder weight lambs are going on to slaughter. Slaughter ewes were around $3 lower in Texas and steady to $1 higher on Midwest markets.

Wool Buyers Encourage Growers To Be Aware Of Poly Problems
Throw away those blue and orange tarps, especially those that are frayed or weatherbeaten, or at least keep them away from shearing facilities. Don’t tie old poly tarps together and use them to shoo sheep into the pens. Be particularly conscious of hay baling twine; keep it picked up, and remove any baling twine prior to grinding hay. When possible, reduce contamination by taking a little extra time during shearing to prepare the clip.

U.S. Meat Production Declines One Percent
Total red meat production under federal inspection last week was estimated at 856.3 million pounds, 2.8 percent more than a week earlier and one percent less than a year ago. Cumulative meat production for the year to date was down 5.7 percent at 7.88 billion pounds.

Lambs sold lower Monday, ewes steady, kids steady and nannies lower. Receipts totaled 2304 head. All cattle classes sold steady Tuesday on receipts of 406 head.

Feeder steers and heifers sold $5-15 higher last week in Mason and San Saba, slaughter cows and bulls steady. Receipts totaled 5181 head at the two sales, including the special weaned and feeder sales.

2003 Pork Production To New Record Volume
Red meat production in the United States totaled 46.8 billion pounds in 2003, 1.2 percent below the previous year's record high. Red meat production in commercial plants totaled 46.6 billion pounds, on-farm production 136 million pounds.

Boxed Beef Values Up $7.39 Last Week
The national comprehensive boxed beef cutout report on all fed steers and heifers sold last week jumped $7.39 to $135.09.

Colorado City Calves, Yearlings Sell Steady
Feeder steer and heifer calves sold steady, slaughter cows and bulls steady to $2 higher, stock cows and pairs $25-50 higher. Receipts totaled 289 head.

Billings Feeder Lambs Sell Lower
Feeder lambs on Monday sold $5-10 lower than two weeks ago in a light test, slaughter ewes $5-8 lower. Receipts totaled 583 head.

San Saba Offers 3800 Replacement Cattle
Open heifers were mostly $675-780 per head in a special replacement female sale, and 38 tigerstripes brought $860. Pairs were mostly $1100-1230, a few tigerstripes $1340, bred heifers $875-1050, topping at $1170 on 15 Brangus, and bred cows were mostly $800-1000 with few second-calf Brangus at $1180. Receipts totaled 3803 head.
