$280 per cow and delivered them recently to an Oklahoma buyer; the
cows were threes to sevens.

Cecil Henderson, Salina, Kan., bought, on order for American Stores
at Lincoln, Neb., 125 fed heifers, described as choice and weighing
1000 pounds, at $37 on dressed basis from Young & Cooper, Wichita,
Kan., delivered last week out of feedlots at Pratt, Kan.

Hack January of Claude, Texas, sold 50 heifers weighing 563 pounds
at $19.50, delivered last week off his north ranch to an Amarillo
buyer.

Rodney Smith of Happy, Texas, sold 277 steers, Herefords with some
Angus on them, weighing 732 pounds at $21 and delivered them late last
week to an Amarillo buyer.

George Simms of Panhandle bought 80 steers from Herman Biggs there
at $22.50 for some Herefords weighing 550 and $21.50 for some Angus
weighing about 750 for delivery this week.

Roswell Wool & Mohair Co., Roswell, N.M., accepted bids on
approximately 40,000 pounds of the 130,000 pounds of wool offered in
small lots during their sale Tuesday, reported James Goodrum, manager.
Prices of the accepted bids ranged from 36 to 50 cents for the
wools, consisting of untied fall lamb wool and 12-months fleeces.
Buyers were J.P. Stevens & Co., Nichols & Co. Another sale is
scheduled for next Monday and Tuesday.

L.A. Hudson of Groom bought 60 steers weighing 532 at $22,
delivered this week from J.F. Ford of Bootleg, Texas.

T.B. Saunders, Fort Worth and Weatherford, in association with his
son Tom B. Sanders IV and son-in-law Jim Calhoun, sold 2075 reputation
Twin V and Spur brand Hereford steer yearlings for July 12 delivery at
$30.25; the steers, expected to weigh 650-700 pounds at delivery, were
sold to a Northern feeder through Wilderspin Cattle Co.

Ernest Langenegger & Sons, Hagerman, N.M., "hedged"
400 heifers by contracting them for mid-August delivery to a
California packer at $27.50. Some arrived at the feed pens the day
they were contracted, the others the week before.

Something new in the mohair trade was the manner in which mohair
was displayed for sealed bid sales in Uvalde and Rocksprings. All the
kid, young goat and finer adult was on the floor, 20 percent actually
laid out for inspection and the rest available. Ten percent of the
coarser adult was laid out. Several buyers lauded this feature but
were less keen on the sealed bid system.

In Texas, some adult mohair has been sold for $1.40, a small amount
of kid $3.75-4. In general, the market remains very quiet. Winter
storms have caused late shearing and death losses.

The USDA’s bi-weekly report on cattle imports from Mexico shows
55,093 feeder steers entering during the period Feb. 26-March 11.

in their "first annual" bull and female sale at Port City
Stockyards. The bulls averaged $1523 and females, including pairs,
bred, exposed and open, averaged $780.

range and in the Northwest a total of 2750 head.
