Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter March 1 in feedlots with a capacity of 1000 or more head totaled 10.98 million head, four percent above last year but five percent below two years ago.

Angelo Lambs, Kids Lower, Cattle Firm
Feeder lambs sold $5 to mostly $10 lower on Tuesday, slaughter lambs under 90 pounds $5-10 lower, heavier weights weak, slaughter ewes steady; kid goats were $5-10 lower and nannies steady. Receipts totaled 10,096 head, around 40 percent feeder lambs, 20 percent slaughter lambs, 10 percent slaughter ewes and 30 percent goats. This was the first special spring lamb sale of the season.

Domestic Wool, Mohair Trading Slow, Australian Wool Higher
Trading on domestic wool was slow to moderate last week, demand moderate to good. Spring shearing continues to be interrupted in the Midwest states and Texas by rain and muddy conditions. Western and Mountain states enjoyed excellent shearing weather, and most shearing is ahead of schedule. Wool quality and condition is improved from the last several years of drouth, and seller expectations of new wool prices are limiting sales in some areas.

Comanche Feeder Calf, Yearling Trade Higher
Feeder steers and heifers sold $3-4 higher, slaughter cows $2-3 higher, bulls $3-5 higher. Receipts totaled 852 head.

Fredericksburg Feeder Cattle Prices Strong
Feeder steers and heifers sold strong, slaughter cows and bulls $1-2 lower. Receipts totaled 928 head.

Mexican Cattle Imports Down 5%, Exports Nil
Feeder cattle imports from Mexico through the week ending March 20 totaled 253,934 head, down five percent from last year.

Junction Sheep, Most Goat Prices Steady
Sheep classes sold steady, slaughter meat type kids, nannies and billies steady, stock nannies $5-10 higher, Angora nannies $1-3 higher, kids steady. Receipts totaled 1844 head.

Most Brownwood Steer, Heifer Yearlings Hold
Feeder steer and heifer yearlings sold steady, steer calves $3 higher, heifers steady, slaughter cows and bulls steady to $2 higher, stock cows and pairs steady. Receipts totaled 391 head.

Hamilton Kid, Lambs Higher, Cattle Steady
Slaughter kids and lambs sold higher on Monday, nannies and ewes steady. Receipts totaled 3159 head. All classes of cattle sold steady Tuesday on receipts of 315 head.

February Pork Output Reaches Record High
Commercial red meat production for the United States in February was down three percent from last year at 3.4 billion pounds. Pork production set a record high for February.

Most Abilene Cattle Prices Called Higher
Feeder steer and heifer calves sold $1-2 higher, yearlings steady to firm, slaughter cows and bulls $1-2 higher, stock cows and pairs $20-40 higher. Receipts totaled 889 head.

Fredericksburg Goats, Lightweight Lambs Up
Feeder lambs sold $5-7 lower, slaughter lambs steady except lightweights $5-10 higher, slaughter goats $5-10 higher. Receipts totaled 3385 head.

Boxed Beef Values Move Upward $2.40
Boxed beef values moved up $2.40 last week to $137.91, the fourth consecutive weekly advance and the highest level since January. Price advances were in the lower quality categories and the higher priced cuts.

Feeder lambs were scarce and steady, slaughter lambs steady except lightweights $5-10 higher, stock goats steady to firm, slaughter goats $10-15 higher. Receipts totaled 2426 head.

Mason, San Saba Calf, Yearling Trend Strong
Feeder steer and heifer calves and yearlings sold steady to strong last week, slaughter cows and bulls steady, stock cows and pairs $25-50 higher. Receipts totaled 607 head at the two sales.

Lampasas Feeder Steer, Heifer Prices Higher
Feeder steers sold steady to $1 higher, heifers $2-3 higher, slaughter cows $2-3 lower, bulls steady. Receipts totaled 502 head.

U.S. Meat Production 2.3% Below A Year Ago
Total red meat production under federal inspection last week was estimated at 854.1 million pounds, .9 percent less than a week earlier and 2.3 percent less than a year ago. Cumulative meat production for the year to date was down five percent at 9.6 billion pounds.

Red Meat Supplies Down 4%, Poultry Down 13%
Total red meat supplies in freezers on February 29 were down four percent from last year at 934.7 million pounds. Total frozen poultry supplies were down 13 percent at 1.02 billion pounds.

Coleman Feeder Steer, Heifer Prices Higher
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $2 higher, slaughter cows $2-3 higher, bulls $2 lower, stock cows and pairs steady to firm. Receipts totaled 1079 head.

Colorado City Feeder Cattle Prices Higher
Feeder steer and heifer calves were $2-4 higher, yearlings steady to $1 higher, slaughter cows steady to $1 lower, bulls steady, stock cows and pairs steady. Receipts totaled 414 head.
