Dear Sir,

I have had questions about your article on my presentation to TSCRA. ("Rancher/Feeder Tells Cattlemen To Find Own Places In Market," March 18)

I did not mean to say that packers or retailers have no incentive today to push the market higher. Thankfully, they do. What I was trying to point out was if they get all of their cattle on grids where the price is based on their sales price, they will not have an incentive to push prices higher. When their prices are established by negotiation, they have to sell beef higher to make more money, and making more money is the incentive that works. My hope is that we will sell more beef on grids, but they will be negotiated grids.
