Domestic Wool, Mohair Trading
Slow, Australian Wool Higher
GREELEY, Colo. —(USDA)— Trading on domestic wool was slow to
moderate last week, demand moderate to good.
Spring shearing continues to be interrupted in the Midwest states
and Texas by rain and muddy conditions. Western and Mountain states
enjoyed excellent shearing weather, and most shearing is ahead of
schedule. Wool quality and condition is improved from the last several
years of drouth, and seller expectations of new wool prices are
limiting sales in some areas.
Midwestern states: original bag, bellies in, 12-month ewe wool, 3-4
inch 23-26 micron, $.60-.70, few finer to $.80, load 22-24 micron
$.92, 28-32 micron $.40-.50, blackface wool 30-34 micron $.25-.30,
fine lamb wool 2-3 inch, 22-26 micron $.70-.75, medium lamb, 24-28
micron $.50-.60, part load mixed lamb wool, 22-30 micron, BI, 2-3 inch
$.50. A total of 100,000 pounds was reported.
Colorado, 65,000 pounds 12-month ewe wool, OB, BOU, 3-3.25 inch,
23-24 micron, average to high yielding $1.10-1.12 f.o.b. net grease.
Wyoming, 108,000 pounds, OB, BOU, 2.8-3.25 inch, average to high
yielding 20-21.5 micron $2.33 net clean, 22-23.5 micron $1.12-1.19
f.o.b. net grease, tags $.10-.12, belly wool $.32-.45 and blackface
buck wool $.40.
Warehouse trading was slow to moderate, 280,000 pounds reported,
good to choice style, graded three-inch plus wool, 22-23.5 micron
$2.30 clean delivered, 23.5-24.9 micron $2.05 and 31-33 micron $1,
lamb wool 1-3 inch, 22-24 micron $1.10, and 24-28 micron $.80-.90.
Trading on Texas mohair remained slow, 30,000 pounds of adult hair
34-38 micron $1.42, 6500 pounds spring kid hair $3.25-4.
Australian wool markets closed the week higher with the eastern
market indicator up two at $792A cents per kilo clean. A total of
71,126 bales were offered with sales at 88 percent. Sydney futures
markets, in U.S. dollars per pound f.o.b. Sydney: the 21 micron grease
wool contracts for April were unchanged at $2.92, June down three at
$2.92, August down two at $2.92, October down four at $2.90, December
down six at $2.88, and February 2005 down 10 at $2.86. The 19 micron
clean wool contracts for April were unchanged at $3.27, June up one at
$3.32, August up one at $3.37, and October up two at $3.42. The 23
micron clean wool contracts for April were down four at $2.64, June
down three at $2.63, August unchanged at $2.64, and October down one
at $2.60. The Australian dollar was .7446 U.S. compared to .5851 last
year, an increase of 28 percent. Last year’s market indicator was
1051A cents per kilo clean.
