Apart On Money Through Midweek
Plains feedlots were holding out for $89-90 at midweek in the face
of bids ranging from $82 to $84 on the outside.
Last week’s trade was late and nominal at a steady $86, leaving
packers short-bought coming into this week. As a result, observers
expect prices to shake out closer to the asking side than the bidding
side.
The Texas Cattle Feeders Association counted 77,984 head on area
showlists, up 5679 head with carryover supplies. Captives were up 1134
head at 35,184.
Elsewhere, USDA reported direct trading on a few pens at $84.50-87
live and about $141 in the beef. Midwest terminals paid $83-87 on
small numbers.
Stocker and feeder cattle sold generally steady to higher across
the country this week.
Joplin, Mo., sold 5000 head and termed steers under 600 pounds
fully steady, heavier steers $2-4 higher and heifers fully steady to
$2 higher. A roundup of four Florida auctions was steady on 4286 head
between them, and La Junta, Colo. was steady to $1 higher on a light
test of 1311 head.
In Texas, Hallettsville was steady on 1730 head, Three Rivers
steady to $4 higher on 1769. With 2047 head on offer, Crockett sold
steers and heifers under 500 pounds steady and heavier weights $1-2
lower. Amarillo receipts came to 3571 head, the trend steady to firm
on weights under 500 pounds; heavier heifers were steady to $3 higher,
heavier steers $3-6, instances $7 higher.
With 14,160 head on hand, Oklahoma City quoted feeder weight steers
steady to $1 higher, as much as $2 higher on eight-weight heifers;
steer calves were steady, heifer calves steady to $2 higher. Best
425-450 pound steer calves earned $129, fleshy $124-125.50; 500-600
pounds $107-122, calves $103-109; 600-700 pounds $100-109.50, a few
calves $93.75-99.50; 700-750 pounds $98-102.25; 750-800 pounds
$92.25-99.50; 800-900 pounds $87.75-93.50; 900-1000 pounds
$86.50-89.25; and 1025-1100 pounds $83.75-87.75.
