Slaughter Goat Prices Quoted
Steady Again On Most Markets

Meat type slaughter goats held steady again on most markets. Exceptions were New Holland, Pennsylvania, where the trend ranged from steady to $10 lower, and San Angelo, which called lesser quality kids $5-10 lower.

Plains feedlots were seeking $91 on fed cattle at midweek against bids of $85. Trade came early week, but at a disappointing $88-88.50.

Meat Imports Total 28.6% Below Year Ago
Imported meat and poultry passed for entry into the United States the week ending September 2 totaled 25,426 metric tons or 28.6 percent below last year’s figure for the same period of 35,637. Fresh beef was off 37.3 percent at 14,387, lamb and mutton down 19.8 percent at 878. The following figures are in metric tons.

South African Mohair Prices Termed Softer
South Africa’s fourth winter Cape mohair sale last week was softer despite the stabilizing effect of the country’s currency decline. The South African rand has declined by 14 percent since the start of the marketing year, helping bolster export demand.

Feeder steers and heifers were steady to $3 lower, slaughter cows and bulls untested because of the large run of feeder calves. Receipts totaled 2559 head.

Coleman Feeder Cattle Sell Steady To Higher
Feeder steers under 500 pounds were $1-3 higher, over 500 pounds steady to $1 higher, heifers $2-3 higher, slaughter cows $1 lower, bulls steady, replacement cows and cow-calf pairs steady to $150 lower. Receipts totaled 1301 head.

Dalhart Light Feeder Cattle Prices Steady
Feeder steers and heifers under 500 pounds were steady to firm, over 550 pounds $2-4 lower, slaughter cows and bulls steady. Receipts totaled 1155 head.

Lampasas Feeder Cattle Prices Steady To Lower
Feeder steers and heifers were steady to instances $1-2 lower, slaughter cows steady, bulls $1-2 lower on a light test. Receipts totaled 719 head.

Lockhart Feeder Cattle Prices Mostly Steady
Feeder steers and heifers were steady to instances $1-2 higher, slaughter cows $1-2 higher, bulls steady. Receipts totaled 817 head.

Feeder steers and heifers sold $2-5 lower across the country last week. It was the fifth consecutive week of downturns, and some calves lost $20-25 during the slide.

Most Mason, San Saba Feeder Cattle Lower
Lightweight feeder steers and heifers were steady in San Saba and Mason, heavier weights $2-4 lower, fleshy and plainer calves $3-5 lower, slaughter cows and bulls $2 higher. Receipts totaled 1847 head at the two sales.

U.S. Meat Imports Under Tariff
Rate Quotas Down From Last Year

According to recent data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, as of September 25, U.S. imports of beef subject to a tariff rate quota equaled 593,164 metric tons. This was 13.7 percent less than the same period a year ago.
