The governments of Peru and Colombia have agreed to end restrictions on U.S. beef imports and will now allow the importation of all U.S. beef and beef products – including those derived from animals of all ages – into their countries.

The agreements take effect on Oct. 25, 2006, for exports to Peru and on Oct. 31, 2006, for exports to Colombia. Both agreements must be ratified by the U.S. Congress before being finalized. Plants will be eligible to export once the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issues new certification requirements.

For additional information, visit the U.S. Trade Representative’s Web site at http://www.ustr.gov.
