Lighter Lambs Steady To $2 Up, Heavies Lower
San Angelo’s market on both feeder and fat lambs favored lighter weights with steady to $2 higher bids on those while heavy lambs were steady to two dollars off. Slaughter ewe markets were mixed, Angelo calling the market firm to $2 higher.

Slaughter goat prices were uneven this week, selling steady to weak at Fredericksburg, firm to $4 higher at San Angelo and $8-10 higher at New Holland, Pennsylvania.

Plains Fed Cattle Trade Lower,
Panhandle Quiet Through Midweek

The fed cattle trade was looking none too shiny at midweek. A few thousand head had moved in Nebraska, Colorado and Iowa at $84-85.50 live and mostly $134 dressed. The short end of that would be about $2 off last week’s going price, which in itself was down a couple of dollars from the week before.

Feeder steers under 500 pounds were $2-5 lower, over 500 pounds steady to $2 lower, heifers under 500 pounds steady, over 500 pounds $1-3 lower, slaughter cows $1-2 lower, bulls steady, replacement cows $50-100 lower, cow-calf pairs untested. Receipts totaled 1592 head.

Wool LDP Declines, Mohair Rate Steady
As of Wednesday, the USDA loan deficiency payment for wool dropped three cents to 23 cents per pound.

Feeder steers and heifers were $2-4 lower, slaughter cows steady, bulls $1-2 lower. Receipts totaled 877 head.

Milano Feeder Cattle Mostly $2-4 Lower
Feeder steers were mostly $2-4 lower, slaughter cows and bulls steady. Receipts totaled 848 head.

Meat Imports Remain 17.9% Below Last Year
Imported meat totaled 25,486 metric tons for the week ending September 23, 17.9 percent below the same period last year. All the following figures are in metric tons.

Australian Wool Price Rally Trickles Down
Domestic wool trading remained in off-season mode last week, but increased demand from Down Under is helping U.S. prices in addition to some buyers willing to purchase carryover wool clips from 2004, 2005 and 2006. Sales were reported on 158,000 pounds.

Beeville Feeder Steer Prices $3-7 Higher
Feeder steers were $3-7 higher, heifers steady to instances $3 higher, slaughter cows weak, bulls firm on a light test. Receipts totaled 847 head.

Most Navasota Feeder Cattle Prices Steady
Feeder steers and heifers were steady on receipts of 2563 head.

Nation’s Feeder Cattle Prices
Mostly $5-10 Lower Last Week

Feeder steer and heifer calves sold $5-10 lower across the country last week, many auction markets reporting declines of $12-17. A light test of yearling feeders traded $2-5 lower.

Most Goldthwaite Goat And Sheep Prices Off
Stock and feeder lambs were untested, lightweight slaughter lambs $3-5 lower, heavyweights steady, all classes of goats $3-5 lower. Receipts totaled 2208 head.

Athens Feeder Cattle Price Trends Lower
Feeder steers under 500 pounds were $5-8 lower, instances $10 lower, over 500 pounds $2-4 lower, heifers $6-7 lower, slaughter cows and bulls steady to firm. Receipts totaled 2194 head.

Boxed Beef Values Take Price Hit
The national comprehensive boxed beef cutout report for last week dropped $3.24 to close at $140.30. That was still better than last year’s price for the same period of $140.02.

Feeder steers 300-500 pounds were $2-3 higher, over 500 pounds steady, heifer mostly steady to instances $2 lower, slaughter cows and bulls steady. Receipts totaled 1415 head.

November 9, 2006

Receipts totaled 3197 head on Thursday. Demand was good on a large offering of choice calves and yearlings with a good number being sold as weaned over 45 days. The market as a whole was lower than last week with corn reaching a 10 year high which continues to increase the cost of gains in the feedlot. Stocker steers were $2 to $5 lower and heifers sold $3 to $5 lower. The feeder steers were $2 to $4 lower and feeder heifers were selling $2 to $5 lower. The preconditioned weaned offerings all sold mostly $5 to $12 more than non weaned due to the predictability that the cattle offer. Packer cows and bulls were steady. There was no real market trend on pairs and bred cows with a limited number being offered. There was no sale in Mason due to opening weekend of deer season.
