Most Slaughter Meat Goats Sell
Steady After Short Holiday Week

Slaughter meat goat prices on most Texas markets were steady this week, though Fredericksburg was termed higher with no specifics. New Holland, Pennsylvania quoted prices from steady to as much as $8 lower.

Plains Feedlots Seeking $89-90
Against Packer Bids In Mid-80s

Plains feedlots and packers were $4-5 apart on fed cattle prices at midweek. Bids were mostly $85 against asking prices of $89-90. Last week’s pre-holiday trade was active at $87-88.

Holiday Markets Steady, Carcass Prices Lower
Sheep markets were able to hold mostly steady on all classes through the Thanksgiving holidays with many markets reporting both lower numbers and interest. Price gains that were reported on lighter lambs were countered by lower prices on the higher end.

All sheep and lamb classes were steady on receipts of 7500 head. There was no cattle sale last week in observance of Thanksgiving.

New Holland Sheep, Goats Mostly Lower
Lambs were mostly $3-6 lower, weights under 70 pounds as much as $20 lower, slaughter sheep steady to $10 lower, kid goats steady to $8 lower, nannies mostly steady and billies $15 lower. Receipts totaled 1647 sheep and 1312 goats. All sheep prices are quoted on a hundredweight basis, goats by the head.

Most Crockett Feeder Cattle Steady To Firm
Feeder steers and heifers were steady to firm, slaughter cows steady, bulls $2 lower. Receipts totaled 1485 head.

Milano Cattle Prices Termed Mostly Steady
Feeder steers and heifers were mostly steady, slaughter cows and bulls steady. Receipts totaled 1149 head.

Fredericksburg Feeder Lamb Prices Steady
Stocker and feeder lambs were steady, lightweight slaughter lambs steady, heavyweights $3-5 higher, slaughter goats steady, stocker and feeder goats untested. Receipts totaled 3615 head.

Llano Cattle Price Trends Termed Steady
All represented cattle classes were steady on receipts of 649 head.

Domestic Wool Demand Light,
Holiday Trade At Standstill

Domestic wool trading was at a complete standstill during last week’s holiday-shortened period. Demand was light to very light for limited supplies held in firm hands. No new clean wool sales were reported.

Comprehensive Boxed Beef Price Rises $2
The national comprehensive boxed beef cutout report for last week was up $2 to close at $140.49. Last year’s close for the same period was $147.02.

Meat Imports 4.6%
Less Than A Year Ago

Imported meat and poultry for the week ending October 14 totaled 23,440 metric tons or about 51.6 million pounds, which is 4.6 percent less than the same period a year ago. The following figures are in metric tons.

Most Haskell Feeder Cattle Prices Steady
Feeder steers and heifers were steady, stocker cows steady, slaughter cows $1 higher. Receipts totaled 504 head.

U.S. Meat Production 5.6% Above A Year Ago
Total red meat production under federal inspection during last week’s holiday-shortened period was estimated at 864.2 million pounds, 8.7 percent less than the previous week and 5.6 percent more than a year ago. Cumulative meat production for the year to date is up 3.8 percent compared to the previous year.

Junction Kid Goat Price Trend Higher
Kid goats were higher, other sheep and goat price trends unreported on receipts of 1532 head.

Tulia Feeder Cattle Prices Mostly Higher
Feeder steers under 500 pounds were $2-5 higher, over 500 pounds $1-3 higher, heifers steady to $2 higher, slaughter cows steady to $1 higher, bulls $2-4 higher. Receipts totaled 2097 head.

Feeder steers under 500 pounds were steady to $3 lower, over 500 pounds $2-3 higher, heifers steady to firm, slaughter cows and bulls $1-2 higher, replacement cows steady, cow-calf pairs untested. Receipts totaled 1667 head.
