Plains Feedlots, Packers Far
Apart On Dollars At Midweek

Packers were offering $84 for fed cattle at midweek against asking prices ranging from $88 to $90. Last week’s market sifted out at $85-85.50.

Feeder Lambs Steady,
Fats Trend Higher

Feeder lambs were steady in markets that were able to generate high enough numbers to call a trend. Slaughter lambs were able to garner higher prices across the country with some markets quoting prices $10 higher. Meat was higher on light carcasses, those above 65 pounds $2-3 lower. Slaughter ewes were called firm to $10 higher.

Slaughter meat goat prices were steady to stronger in most areas over the past week, San Angelo calling trends firm to $5 higher and New Holland, Penn. $6-10 higher per head.

Total red meat production under federal inspection last week was estimated at 945.7 million pounds, .9 percent higher than the previous week and 1.3 percent higher than a year ago. Cumulative meat production for the year to date was up 3.8 percent from last year.

Lightweight slaughter lambs were steady to weak, heavyweights $5-10 higher, lightweight slaughter goats steady to firm, heavyweights $5-7 lower. Receipts totaled 4203 head.

Imported Meats 10% Below A Year Ago
Imported meat and poultry for the week ending November 4, 2006 totaled 26,439 metric tons, which is approximately 58.2 million pounds. A year ago imports totaled 23,953 metric tons. The following are in metric tons.

Feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $3 higher across the country last week. A few places were lower, but their volume was insufficient to gain mention in a national report.

Fredericksburg Feeder Steers, Heifers Steady
 Feeder steers were steady, heifers steady, slaughter cows and bulls $2-3 higher. Receipts totaled 1706 head.

San Saba And Mason Feeder Cattle Up $2
Stocker steers and heifers sold steady in Mason and San Saba, feeder steers and heifers $2 higher, packer cows and bulls steady. Receipts totaled 2274 head at the two sales.

Most Lampasas Steer, Heifer Prices Steady
Feeder steers and heifers were steady, slaughter cows steady, slaughter bulls $1-3 higher. Receipts totaled 1202 head.
