Plains Fed Cattle Trade Quiet
Following Jump Of $3 Last Week

Panhandle fed cattle prices jumped $3 last week to close at mostly $90 on ample volume. Feedlots were asking $92-94 at presstime and getting spotty bids of $90 to $90.75.

Slaughter Meat Goat Trends
Unclear After Holiday Week

Slaughter meat goat price trends were somewhat sketchy and contradictory this week, many auctions having closed last week for the holiday period and thus unable to make comparisons. San Angelo was $10 higher than two weeks ago and New Holland, Pennsylvania was $4-8 per head higher than last week. Hamilton termed prices $20 lower, however, Fredericksburg quoted no trends, and Goldthwaite was unreported.

Ewes Fare Better

Mixed prices on feeder lambs were the rule as traders tried to return from last week’s holiday-shortened market. Many markets took the usual week off for the Independence Day break last week, and the sales that were operating did so on smaller receipts.

Angelo Feeder Lambs Weak, Kid Goats Up
Compared to the last sale June 26, feeder lambs were weak in a light test, heavy slaughter lambs $5-10 higher Tuesday, light slaughter lambs steady, slaughter ewes firm, nannies firm, kids $10 higher. Receipts totaled 9893 head.

Athens Market Sells 516 Head of Cattle
No market comparison available on rain-reduced cattle receipts of 516 head.

Billings Feeder Lamb Prices Steady To Up
Feeder lambs under 90 pounds were mostly steady, 90-100 pounds $4-6 higher, over 100 pounds steady to $4 higher, slaughter ewes mostly steady. Receipts totaled 2234 head.

Boxed Beef Cutout Prices Trends Mixed
The national comprehensive boxed beef cutout report for last week was up 40 cents at $137.94. A year ago, the cutout value was $139.53.

Most Buffalo Steer, Heifer Prices Steady
Feeder steers and heifers were steady to instances $2 higher, slaughter cows $2 higher, slaughter bulls steady. Receipts totaled 515 head.

Most Crockett Feeder Cattle Prices Higher
Feeder steers and heifers were $3-5 higher, slaughter cows and bulls steady to firm. Receipts totaled 1868 head.

Fredericksburg Sells 3822 Sheep And Goats
No sheep and goat market trends were available due to last week’s holiday closing. Receipts totaled 3822 head.

Graham Feeder Steers, Heifers Sell Higher
Feeder steers $1-3 higher, feeder heifers $3-5 higher, slaughter cows and bulls steady to $2 lower, replacement cows and cow-calf pairs $100 lower on a light test.

Hamilton Lambs Up $5-7, Cattle Mostly Higher
Feeder lambs sold $5-7 higher Monday, ewes steady, kid goats $20 lower, nannies steady. Other sheep and goat trends were unreported on receipts of 3269 head.

Haskell Auction Sells 521 Head Of Cattle
Price trends were not reported on cattle receipts of 521 head.

Imported Meat Total .13% Above Last Year
Imported meat for the week ending May 26 totaled 30,220 metric tons. This compares to 26,751 metric tons for the same period last year and is a .13 percent increase. The following figures represent metric tons.

Junction Kids Gain, Others Sell Steady
Choice 50-60 pound kid goats sold $7-12 higher, other sheep and goat classes steady. Receipts totaled 1546 head.

Red Meat Production 2% Below Last Year
Total red meat production under federal inspection last week was estimated at 779.3 million pounds, 1.1 percent lower than the previous week and two percent below last year. Cumulative meat production for the year to date was 1.1 percent higher.

Nation’s Feeder Cattle Trends
Up On Independence Week Sales

Due to Independence Day, feeder and stocker cattle auction trade last week was too light to fully test the market. However, the few major salebarns that remained open reported a higher undertone. Direct feeder trade receipts were firm to $3 higher as well.

Three Rivers Market Sells 619 Cattle
No cattle market trends were available because of last week’s holiday closing. Receipts totaled 619 head.

Tulia Feeder Cattle Prices Increase $3-5
Feeder steers and heifers were $3-5 higher on a light test of weights under 600 pounds, slaughter cows steady to $1 higher. Receipts totaled 1405 head.

Domestic Wool Demand Light, No Sales Noted
Domestic wool trading was at a standstill during last week’s holiday-shortened period. Demand was moderate for light remaining supplies, most interests busy shipping previously purchased wool. No sales were reported on either a clean or grease basis.
