Plains Fed Cattle Active Again
Wednesday For Second Go-Round

Plains cattle feeders have had two pleasant surprises in a week’s time, selling cattle on Wednesday morning both this week and last. The going price both times was $95-95.50, two to three dollars better than the week before last.

Post-Holiday Sheep Trade Mostly Better
The holiday-shortened week last week did not have a negative effect on the sheep market as most offerings were able to post gains. In San Angelo there were few feeders, but the money held compared to two weeks ago. Light slaughter lambs were as much as $3 higher with heavier lambs holding steady and ewes up as much as $2.

Slaughter Meat Goat Prices
Steady To Higher Where Tested

Slaughter meat goat prices were steady to higher in most tested markets this week. Fredericksburg called prices steady, San Angelo firm, Hamilton $7-10 higher, and New Holland, Pennsylvania $5-10 higher per head. Goldthwaite did not sell Friday because of the Thanksgiving holiday, and winter weather held Junction’s receipts to a negligible figure.

TAHC Delaying New TB Rules On Dairy Cattle
Livestock health officials have delayed enforcement through March 31 for a new in-state movement requirement for Texas dairy breed cattle. The cattle tuberculosis regulation, adopted in September by commissioners for the Texas Animal Health Commission, requires Texas dairy cattle to be identified prior to movement within the state. Because they are managed in close confinement, dairy animals can be at a greater risk for disease exposure if an infected animal is in the herd.

No market trends were available due to the reporter’s absence the previous week. Receipts totaled 1600 head.

Hamilton Lambs Steady, Cattle Steady To Higher
Lambs sold steady Monday, kid goats $7-10 higher, nannies steady to higher. Other sheep and goat trends were unreported on receipts of 986 head.

Imported Meat Total 10.73% Below Year Ago
Imported meat for the week ending October 13 totaled 20,925 metric tons. This compares to 23,440 metric tons for the same period last year and is a 10.73 percent decrease. The following figures represent metric tons.

Industry Feed Cattle Sell $2-4 Higher
Feeder steers and heifers $2-4 higher, slaughter cows $1-2 higher, slaughter bulls steady. Receipts totaled 779 head.

Fredericksburg Lambs Up $2-3, Goats Steady
Stocker and feeder lambs were $2-3 higher, light slaughter lambs $3-5 higher, heavyweights steady, stocker and feeder goats steady, slaughter goats steady. Receipts totaled 3186 head.

Mohair Wool LDP Unchanged
WASHINGTON — As of Wednesday the LDP remained at 49 cents. The LDP for ungraded wool also remained unchanged at 15 cents.

U.S. Meat Production .4% Above A Year Ago
Total red meat production under federal inspection last week was estimated at 872.1 million pounds, 12.1 percent lower than the previous week and .4 percent below last year. Cumulative meat production for the year to date was two percent above last year.

Feeder steers and heifers were mostly $2-4 higher, slaughter cows steady to $2 higher, slaughter bulls steady. Receipts totaled 696 head.

Bulls Average $3063 In Vermilion Fall Sale
The Vermilion Ranch Fall Performance Spectacular sale averaged $3063 on 228 fall yearling and two year-old bulls, $2180 on 187 registered bred cows, $1594 on 122 registered bred heifers, $1390 on 83 commercial bred cows, and $1381 on 1317 commercial bred heifers.

Domestic Wool Quiet, Aussie Market Higher
Domestic wool trading remained at a standstill last week with no new confirmed sales and light to moderate demand for the balance of unsold wool.
