Slaughter Meat Goat Prices
Mixed In Most Recent Trade

Slaughter meat goat prices were mixed in most recent sales. Goldthwaite was $3-5 lower and New Holland, Pennsylvania reported a lower undertone on limited receipts. Hamilton was steady, however, San Angelo firm to $4 higher and Fredericksburg $5-7 higher. Junction did not sell this week.

Markets Weak To Off

Heavy slaughter lambs were taking the post-Easter trade on the chin with San Angelo calling prices $8-10 lower than last week. Feeder lambs and slaughter ewes were steady to weak at most markets. More wet weather and the holiday weekend likely contributed to the reduced receipts at most markets.

Plains Feedlots See No Action
On Fed Cattle Through Midweek

Plains feedlots were asking $91-92 at midweek against a few bids of $87. Last week’s movement was scant at $90, steady with the week before.

Boxed Beef Cutout Prices Mostly Lower
The national comprehensive boxed beef cutout report for last week showed prices down $2.85 from the previous week at $143.75. A year ago, the cutout value was $156.69.

Feeder steers 300-450 pounds were $2 higher, 450-700 pounds steady, heifers steady, slaughter cows and slaughter bulls steady. Receipts totaled 653 head.

Total red meat supplies in
U.S. freezers on February 29 were up eight percent from last year at 12.502 billion pounds.

Most Dalhart Feeder Cattle Prices Off $2
Feeder steers and heifers were mostly $2 lower except 300-550 pound steers steady, slaughter cows and bulls steady. Receipts totaled 2276 head.

Fredericksburg Feeder Cattle Prices Mixed
Steers sold $1-2 higher, heifers $1-3 lower, slaughter cows and bulls $1-2 lower. Receipts totaled 498 head.

Fredericksburg Lambs Lower, Goats Higher Stocker and feeder lambs were $3-5 lower on a light test, slaughter lambs steady, slaughter goats $5-7 higher. Receipts totaled 1882 head.

Stocker and feeder lambs were $5-7 lower, slaughter lambs steady, slaughter goats $3-5 lower. Receipts totaled 2384 head.

Hales Angus Bulls Average $3757 On 93
A total of 93 bulls averaged $3757 and 74 females averaged $1522 in the Hales Angus Farms 13th annual sale. Buyers were from New Mexico, Oklahoma, Colorado, Florida and Texas.

Hamilton Ewes Steady, Feeder Steers Steady
Ewes sold steady on Monday, kid goats steady, nannies $5 higher. Receipts totaled 839 head.

Imported Meat Total 18.73% Below Year Ago
Imported meat for the week ending February 9 totaled 20,382 metric tons. This compares to 25,080 metric tons for the same period last year and is an 18.73 percent decrease. The following figures represent metric tons.

Most Mason, San Saba Feeder Cattle Lower
Feeder steers and heifers sold $2 lower in San Saba and Mason, stocker steers $2 higher, stocker heifers steady, slaughter cows and bulls steady. Receipts totaled 3078 head.

Lampasas Feeders  Steady To Firm
Feeder steers and heifers were steady to firm, slaughter cows $1-3 higher, slaughter bulls steady. Receipts totaled 297 head.

Mohair And Wool LDPs Unchanged
WASHINGTON — As of Wednesday the LDP for mohair remained at 98 cents. The LDP for ungraded wool was also unchanged at 15 cents.

Feeder steers and heifers were $3-5 lower, slaughter cows steady. Receipts totaled 612 head.

Red Meat Production 4.6% Above Year Ago
Total red meat production under federal inspection last week was estimated at 975.5 million pounds, 1.2 percent higher than the previous week and 6.3 percent above last year. Cumulative meat production for the year to date was 4.8 percent higher last year.

Feeder steers under 500 pounds were steady to $2 higher, over 500 pounds steady to $1 lower, heifers under 500 pounds steady to firm, over 500 pounds steady to $1 lower, slaughter cows and bulls steady. Receipts totaled 628 head.

Feeder cattle sold $1-3 lower last week while calves traded $2-5 lower with many instances as much as $8 lower.

Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter March 1 in feedlots with a capacity of 1000 or more head totaled 11.9 million head, two percent above the same period in 2007 but one percent below March 1, 2006.

February Meat Output 10% Above Last Year
Commercial red meat production for the United States in February was up 10 percent from a year ago at 3.968 billion pounds.

Feeder steers and heifers were $4-10 higher, slaughter cows and bulls steady. Receipts totaled 1031 head.

Tulia Feeder Cattle Prices Steady To Up
Feeder steers were steady except 700-900 pounds $2-5 higher, heifers steady except 600-700 pounds $1-2 higher, slaughter cows steady. Receipts totaled 2475 head.

Domestic Wool Fair, Aussie Prices Lower
Domestic wool trading on a clean basis was moderate last week with confirmed sales of 424,000 pounds. Territory states quotes include prices from a wool marketing association.
