Slaughter Meat Goat Prices
Steady At Most Recent Sales

Slaughter meat goat prices were steady in most recent sales, but there were exceptions. Fredericksburg and Hamilton were steady, Goldthwaite steady to firm. San Angelo was weak, however, Junction higher by an unspecified amount, and New Holland, Pennsylvania $5-10 per head lower on weights under 80 pounds, steady to $5 higher on heavier kinds.

Sheep Markets Hold Line On Prices
Feeders lambs were steady at San Angelo, Hamilton and Junction while Fredericksburg called the market $3-5 higher. Slaughter lambs were mostly steady, as were slaughter ewes.

Plains Feedlots Seek Reprise

Feeder lambs were lightly tested on Tuesday, slaughter lambs steady, slaughter ewes firm, kid goats weak, nannies steady. Receipts totaled 7827 head.

Athens Feeder Steers, Heifers $4-6 Higher
Feeder steers and heifers were $4-6 higher, instances $6-8 higher, slaughter cows and bulls $1-3 higher. Receipts totaled 1161 head.

Beeville Feeder Cattle Prices Increase $2-4

Boxed Beef Cutout Price Trend Higher
The national comprehensive boxed beef cutout report for last week showed prices up $5.91 from the previous week at $147.07. A year ago, the cutout value was $158.19.

Feeder steers and heifers were $2-3 higher, slaughter cows and bulls steady. Receipts totaled 1223 head.

Feeder steers and heifers were $1-3 higher, slaughter cows and bulls steady. Receipts totaled 683 head.

Coleman Light Feeder Cattle Steady To Firm
Feeder steers under 500 pounds were steady to firm, over 500 pounds $1-3 higher, heifers under 500 pounds steady to $2 higher, over 500 pounds $2 higher, slaughter cows and bulls $1-3 higher, replacement cows and cow-calf pairs steady to firm. Receipts totaled 1461 head.

Dalhart Feeder Cattle Prices $2-3 Higher
Feeder steers and heifers were $2-3 higher, some thin, gaunt or preconditioned offerings $5 higher, slaughter cows and bulls firm. Receipts totaled 1739 head.

Edinburg Feeder Steer, Heifer Prices Higher
Feeder steers and heifers were $3-5 higher, slaughter cows $2 higher, slaughter bulls steady to $1 higher. Receipts totaled 916 head.

Fredericksburg Feeder Cattle Prices Improve
Steers sold $1-2 higher, heifers $2-4 higher, slaughter cows and bulls steady. Receipts totaled 908 head.

Fredericksburg Lambs Up, Goats Sell Steady
Stocker and feeder lambs were $3-5 higher, lightweight slaughter lambs steady, slaughter goats steady. Receipts totaled 2341 head.

Goldthwaite Packer Lambs Steady To Up
Lightweight slaughter lambs were $3-5 higher, heavyweight lambs steady, slaughter goats steady to firm. Receipts totaled 2182 head.

Graham Feeder Steer, Heifer Prices Mixed
Feeder steers under 500 pounds steady to $4 lower, over 500 pounds $2-4 higher, feeder heifers under 500 pounds $2-3 lower, over 500 pounds steady, slaughter cows and bulls steady to firm, replacement cows and cow-calf pairs steady on light test. Receipts totaled 790 head.

Hamilton Calls Lamb, Kid Goat Trend Steady
Lambs sold steady on Monday, ewes $5 higher, kid goats steady, nannies $10 higher. Receipts totaled 2129 head. Cattle were unreported.

Imported Meat Total 7.54% Below Year Ago
Imported meat for the week ending March 8 totaled 24,642 metric tons. This compares to 26,652 metric tons for the same period last year and is a 7.54 percent decrease. The following figures represent metric tons.

Most Mason, San Saba Feeder Cattle Higher
Feeder steers were $2 higher at San Saba and Mason, stocker steers and heifers $1-2 higher, slaughter cows $3 higher, slaughter bulls $2 higher. Receipts totaled 3178 head at the two sales.

Junction Kid Goats Up, Nannies Decline
Good kids were higher, thin nannies lower, other sheep and goat classes mostly steady. Receipts totaled 1502 head.

Mohair Wool LDP Unchanged
WASHINGTON — As of Wednesday the LDP for mohair remained at 71 cents. The LDP for ungraded wool also remained unchanged at 15 cents.

Most Lockhart Feeder Cattle Prices Steady
Feeder steers and heifers were steady, slaughter cows and bulls $1-2 higher. Receipts totaled 858 head.

Red Meat Production 11.7% Above Year Ago
Total red meat production under federal inspection last week was estimated at 998.4 million pounds, four percent higher than the previous week and 11.7 percent above last year. Cumulative meat production for the year to date was 5.8 percent higher than last year.

Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter April 1 in feedlots with a capacity of 1000 or more head totaled 11.7 million head, up slightly from the same period in 2007 but one percent below April 1, 2006.

According to the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association, the barrel racing standings are as follows: Lindsay Sears, Ropesville, Texas, leads the group with a commanding $86,793 in season earnings to date.

 The temporary preventive fever tick quarantine zone in South Texas’ Starr County has been enlarged by nearly 24,000 acres after fever ticks were found on a premise outside the county’s quarantine zone.

Domestic wool trading on a clean basis was moderate last week with confirmed sales of 688,500 pounds under moderate to good demand.
