Plains Feedlots Asking $94-95
After Steady Market Last Week

Plains feedlots sold for basically steady money last week at mostly $92. Bids this week have been $90 against asking prices of $94-95.

Sheep markets were aimless again for the most part this week no significant price movements on any particular class. Increased feed costs continue to weigh heavily on traders.

Slaughter Meat Goat Prices
Range From Higher To Lower

Slaughter meat goat price trends were all over the map in recent sales. Fredericksburg called prices steady, Junction $1-3 lower and San Angelo weak to $5 lower. On the other side of the line, Goldthwaite was $3-5 higher, Hamilton $10 higher and New Holland, Pennsylvania $8-12 higher per head.

Feeder lambs were steady on Tuesday, light slaughter lambs weak to $5 lower, slaughter ewes weak to $2 lower, nannies and kids weak to $5 lower. Receipts totaled 7638 head.

Feeder steers and heifers under 500 pounds were $7-10 higher, over 500 pounds $2-4 higher, slaughter cows and bulls firm to $2 higher. Receipts totaled 978 head.

The national comprehensive boxed beef cutout report for last week showed prices up $4.05 from the previous week at $151.12. A year ago, the cutout value was $153.28.

Feeder steers and heifers under 500 pounds were $1-2 higher, over 500 pounds steady to firm, slaughter cows and bulls steady to $2 higher, replacement cows $50 lower, cow-calf pairs steady to $100 lower. Receipts totaled 1743 head.

Dalhart Light Feeder Cattle Prices Steady
Feeder steers and heifers under 600 pounds were steady, a firm undertone on feeders over 600 pounds, slaughter cows and bulls firm to $2 higher. Receipts totaled 1551 head.

Most Edinburg Steer, Heifer Prices Steady
Feeder steers and heifers were steady, slaughter cows $1 higher, slaughter bulls steady. Receipts totaled 625 head.

Fredericksburg Feeder Cattle Prices Improve
Steers sold steady, heifers $1-3 higher, slaughter cows and bulls $1-2 higher. Receipts totaled 918 head.

Fredericksburg Sheep, Goat Classes Steady
All represented sheep and goat classes were steady on receipts of 2462 head.

Goldthwaite Packer Lambs, Goats Higher
Lightweight slaughter lambs were $3-5 higher, heavyweights steady, slaughter goats $3-5 higher. Receipts totaled 2992 head.

Light Graham Feeder Cattle Steady To Off
Feeder steers and heifers under 500 pounds were steady to $2 lower, over 500 pounds steady to $2 higher, slaughter cows and bulls steady, replacement cows and cow-calf $150 lower. Receipts totaled 1294 head.

Hamilton Lambs Higher, Feeder Cattle Steady
Lambs sold $15 higher on Monday, ewes steady, kid goats $10 higher, nannies steady to $5 higher. Receipts totaled 2532 head.

Imported Meat Total 13.7% Off Year Ago
Imported meat for the week ending March 22 totaled 24,504 metric tons. This compares to 28,394 metric tons for the same period last year and is a 13.7 percent decrease. The following figures represent metric tons.

Mason, San Saba Sell Feeder Cattle Steady
Stocker and feeder steers sold steady in San Saba and Mason, slaughter cows and bulls steady. Receipts totaled 912 head.

San Saba Special Sold 3160 Cattle
Pairs ranged $1200-1875, thinner and mixed-colored and solidmouth pairs $1000-1200, fall-calving bred cows $900-1310, fall-calving bred heifers $800-1580, smaller heifers $800-950, open heifers $800-1180, lighter and younger open heifers $600-$800. Receipts totaled 3160 head. Next replacement female sale scheduled for Saturday, June 7, 2008, at 10 a.m. in San Saba.

Junction Sheep, Goat Price Trends Uneven
Lambs sold $2-4 lower, ewes and bucks steady, choice kid goats $1-3 lower, feeder kids $2-5 lower, thin nannies $2-5 lower, fat nannies steady, billies and muttons steady. Receipts totaled 2760 head.

Wool LDP Rises, Mohair Unchanged
As of Wednesday the LDP for mohair remained at 71 cents. The LDP for ungraded wool, however, rose to 20 cents.

Red Meat Production 8.6% Above Year Ago
Total red meat production under federal inspection last week was estimated at 976.9 million pounds, 2.6 percent higher than the previous week and 8.6 percent above last year. Cumulative meat production for the year to date was 6.2 percent higher than last year.

The wool sale at Roswell on April 29 moved an estimated 1.9 million pounds of wool to a good gathering of buyers from across the country and China.

Tulia Feeder Cattle Sell Steady To Firm
Feeder steers and heifers were steady to firm, instances $2-4 higher on 600-800 pound offerings, slaughter cows steady. Receipts totaled 3707 head.

Domestic Wool Trading Active,
Most Australian Prices Lower

Domestic wool trading on a clean basis was active last week with 880,261 pounds of confirmed sales and 840,501 pounds of unconfirmed sales.
